CHAPTER 18: The Secret Daniel Carter Never Told Emma

The room felt colder.

Even with dozens of people standing inside the mansion

Emma felt completely alone.

Because she had spent twenty years waiting for this moment.

The moment her father would finally explain.

Why he left.

Why he disappeared.

Why he let her grow up believing she wasn’t enough.

But now

When Daniel Carter finally stood in front of her

There was fear in his eyes.

Not relief.

Not happiness.

Fear.

Emma slowly stepped back.

“Dad
”

Her voice trembled.

“What is he talking about?”

Daniel looked at Alexander.

Then at Emma.

For several seconds

He said nothing.

And that silence hurt more than any answer.

“Tell me the truth.”

Emma’s voice became stronger.

“Please.”

Daniel closed his eyes.

“I wanted to.”

A pause.

“Every single day.”

“Then why didn’t you?”

Daniel looked at her.

“Because if I told you
”

His voice broke.

“They would have come for you.”

Emma shook her head.

“They already did.”

She looked around the room.

“They destroyed my life anyway.”

Daniel looked at the Blackwood family.

And whispered:

“I know.”

THE SECRET OF THE FIRST HEIR

Ryan stepped forward.

“Daniel.”

Everyone looked at him.

“You need to explain everything.”

Daniel nodded slowly.

“I will.”

He walked toward the old documents.

The same documents that started this war.

“Everyone believes the Blackwood fortune began with Alexander’s grandfather.”

A pause.

“That is not true.”

Alexander watched silently.

Because he knew what was coming.

“The first Blackwood founder did not create the empire.”

Daniel looked at Emma.

“He took it.”

Noah frowned.

“What does that mean?”

Daniel answered:

“Before Blackwood Enterprises existed
”

A pause.

“There was another family.”

William looked down.

Because he already knew.

“The Carter family.”

Emma froze.

“My family?”

Daniel nodded.

“The original wealth behind the Blackwood empire belonged to your ancestors.”

Silence.

Ethan looked shocked.

“What?”

Daniel continued.

“Your ancestors built a financial network based on protecting people.”

“Helping businesses survive.”

“Creating opportunities.”

A pause.

“But the Blackwoods wanted control.”

Alexander’s expression hardened.

“They destroyed the Carter family.”

Daniel looked at him.

“They erased our name.”

Emma touched her necklace.

The symbol suddenly made sense.

“My father
”

She whispered.

“I’m not a Blackwood.”

Daniel looked at her.

“No.”

A pause.

“You are the reason the Blackwood empire existed.”

Everyone was stunned.

Sophia looked at Alexander.

“So the final heir
”

Daniel nodded.

“Was never a Blackwood.”

He looked at Emma.

“She was the person who could take back what was stolen.”

ALEXANDER'S LAST DEFENSE

Alexander slowly clapped.

Everyone turned.

A cold smile appeared on his face.

“Beautiful story.”

Emma looked at him.

“You’re still lying.”

Alexander laughed.

“You think your father is telling the truth?”

Daniel looked at him.

“Yes.”

Alexander stepped forward.

“Then ask him the real question.”

Emma frowned.

“What question?”

Alexander looked directly at Daniel.

“Ask him why your mother died.”

The room became silent.

Emma turned.

Her heart started beating faster.

“Dad?”

Daniel looked away.

And that was the answer.

Emma’s eyes filled with pain.

“You know.”

Daniel whispered:

“Yes.”

“Tell me.”

Daniel struggled.

“I should have told you years ago.”

“Tell me!”

Everyone froze.

Because Emma’s voice was no longer angry.

It was broken.

Daniel took a deep breath.

“Your mother wasn’t killed because she discovered the Blackwood secret.”

A pause.

“She was killed because she discovered who helped them.”

Ryan immediately understood.

“Someone inside.”

Daniel nodded.

Emma looked at him.

“Who?”

Daniel closed his eyes.

“Someone you trusted.”

The room became tense.

Everyone looked around.

Daniel continued:

“The person who gave Alexander information
”

A pause.

“The person who betrayed your family
”

He looked toward William.

“Was William Blackwood.”

The room exploded with shock.

Ethan stared.

“My father?”

William’s face turned pale.

“No.”

His voice was weak.

“No, Daniel.”

Daniel looked at him.

“You made a choice.”

Emma looked between them.

“Explain.”

William looked destroyed.

“I didn’t kill your mother.”

Nobody spoke.

“But I knew Alexander was watching her.”

A pause.

“And I did nothing.”

The confession was devastating.

Ethan stepped back.

His father.

The man he spent years trying to understand.

Had known.

“You let her die?”

William’s eyes filled with tears.

“I thought I could stop it.”

“You thought?”

Ethan’s voice cracked.

“You thought?”

William lowered his head.

“I was afraid.”

And for the first time

Everyone saw William not as a powerful businessman.

Not as the head of Blackwood.

But as a man destroyed by his own cowardice.

Emma looked at Daniel.

“And you forgave him?”

Daniel shook his head.

“No.”

A pause.

“But I understood.”

She couldn’t believe it.

“My wife was gone.”

Daniel’s voice broke.

“My daughter was alone.”

A tear fell.

“And if I attacked William immediately
”

A pause.

“Alexander would have won.”

Emma looked down.

The truth was painful.

Everyone had failed.

Everyone had suffered.

Everyone had made mistakes.

But there was still one question.

“Where is my mother’s evidence?”

Daniel looked at her.

“What?”

“The evidence she found.”

A pause.

“The reason she died.”

Daniel hesitated.

Then reached into his coat.

He pulled out a small envelope.

Emma recognized it.

The same symbol.

The same mark.

“What is that?”

Daniel handed it to her.

“Your mother left this for you.”

Emma opened it.

Inside was a letter.

Only a few lines.

“Emma, if you are reading this, it means the truth survived.”

“Never let revenge become the reason you fight.”

“The Blackwoods destroyed themselves because they forgot the meaning of family.”

“You must choose differently.”

Emma’s eyes filled with tears.

At the bottom of the letter

One final sentence.

“The person who betrayed us is still alive.”

Everyone froze.

Ryan looked at Daniel.

“You said William.”

Daniel shook his head.

“No.”

Silence.

“I said William knew.”

A pause.

“But he was not the one who betrayed us.”

Everyone stared.

“Then who?”

Daniel slowly turned.

His eyes moved toward the crowd.

Toward the people who had stood beside Alexander.

Then he said:

“The traitor has been hiding among us from the beginning.”

A person stepped forward.

Someone nobody expected.

Someone who had been helping them uncover the truth.

Someone who had gained everyone’s trust.

Ryan’s face turned pale.

“No
”

Emma looked shocked.

“Ryan?”

Detective Ryan Cole froze.

Because Daniel had just exposed the impossible.

“The person who destroyed the Carter family
”

A pause.

“The person who helped Alexander hide everything
”

Daniel looked directly at Ryan.

“Was your father.”

The room went silent.

May you like

And Ryan realized

His entire life had been built on another lie.
