Ten years passed.
The old observatory remained Matthew's favorite place.
Only now it belonged to the newly opened Samuel Harper Center for Inclusive Communication, named after Lucy's great-grandfather.
Children with hearing and speech differences came every weekend.
Families learned sign language together.
Scientists gave astronomy workshops.
Poets held readings where every line was spoken and signed.
Lucy became an educator.
Matthew became an astrophysicist studying distant galaxies.
Alexander attended every opening ceremony.
Not as the famous CEO.
Simply as Matthew's father.
One evening, after the last visitors had left, the three of them stood beneath the telescope.
The sky was clear.
Saturn glowed faintly in the distance.
Lucy smiled.
"Do you remember the gala?"
Matthew laughed and signed,
"I remember thinking billionaires were boring."
Alexander chuckled.
"They still are."
All three laughed together.
Above them, countless silent stars stretched across the night sky.
Years earlier, Matthew had told Lucy that space made sense because no one judged silence there.
Looking up now, he realized something even more important.
Silence had never been the problem.
Loneliness was.
One little girl had crossed a ballroom because her great-grandfather taught her never to leave anyone behind.
