Chapter 4– The Speech Nobody Expected

One year later, Alexander accepted another national award.
This time the ballroom looked almost identical.
The same donors.
The same cameras.
The same applause.
But one thing had changed.
Alexander walked onto the stage...
Beside Matthew.
When the applause faded, Alexander didn't begin speaking.
Instead...
He signed.
Slowly.
Carefully.
Every sentence.
An interpreter voiced his words for the audience.
"I spent years believing success meant building the world's smartest technology."
He looked toward his son.
"I was wrong."
"The hardest thing I ever had to learn..."
"...was how to truly listen."
The ballroom became completely silent.
Not because Matthew was deaf.
Because everyone else suddenly understood what they had been missing.
Alexander announced that the Vale Foundation would launch a nationwide initiative providing free sign-language education for schools, hospitals, and public service workers.
The audience stood.
