CHAPTER 9 THE MOTHER WHO WAS NEVER LOST.

The note remained on Olivia's bed.
Three words.
Three impossible words.
“Your mother survived.”
For several minutes, Olivia could not move.
She simply stared at the paper.
Waiting for the letters to change.
Waiting for someone to tell her it was a cruel joke.
Because that was easier to accept.
A lie.
A threat.
A manipulation.
Anything was easier than the possibility that the woman she had spent her entire life missing...
Had never truly disappeared.
Her mother was alive.
Somewhere.
For twenty-five years, Olivia had carried the same wound.
Why didn't my mother stay?
Why didn't she look for me?
Why did she leave me behind?
She had spent years believing she was unwanted.
Now she had to face a different kind of pain.
What if her mother had been searching for her the entire time?
What if someone had stolen both of their lives?
Ethan found Olivia sitting on the floor beside her bed.
The jade pendant was in her hand.
Her eyes were filled with confusion.
“What happened?”
She handed him the note.
He read it.
And immediately his expression changed.
“My mother is alive.”
Olivia whispered the words.
Not with happiness.
With fear.
Ethan sat beside her.
“I know what you're feeling.”
She looked at him.
“Do you?”
He smiled sadly.
“Yesterday I found out my name wasn't even mine.”
He looked at the note.
“Today you found out your mother might have been taken from you.”
A pause.
“We both lost our past.”
Olivia looked down.
“But what if she didn't want me?”
Ethan immediately answered.
“No.”
The certainty in his voice surprised her.
“How do you know?”
“Because a mother who doesn't want her child doesn't spend thirty years leaving clues behind.”
Olivia looked at him.
“Clues?”
Ethan pointed toward the jade pendant.
“This was hidden inside your wedding dress.”
A pause.
“Someone wanted the truth to come out.”
They brought the note to Alexander.
The moment he saw the symbol on the pendant, his expression changed.
“You found the second mark.”
Victoria looked confused.
“Second mark?”
Alexander nodded.
“There were always two pendants.”
Everyone looked at him.
“One belonged to Isabella.”
“The other belonged to her mother.”
Olivia froze.
“My mother?”
Alexander nodded.
“Your mother carried the original family seal.”
“Why?”
“Because Antonio Moretti trusted no one.”
He explained.
“He divided the information.”
“One pendant contained proof of ownership.”
“The other contained proof of identity.”
Victoria stared.
“So if one was stolen…”
“The truth could still survive.”
Alexander nodded.
“Exactly.”
Richard remained silent.
But Ethan noticed.
His father looked nervous.
Not surprised.
Nervous.
That evening...
They followed the only clue they had.
The second jade pendant.
Inside the pendant was a tiny engraving.
Not visible to the eye.
But under a special scanner...
A location appeared.
A small town several hundred miles away.
A place called:
Blackwood Valley.
Victoria recognized the name immediately.
Her face changed.
“No.”
Olivia looked at her.
“What?”
Victoria looked terrified.
“That place doesn't exist.”
Alexander frowned.
“What do you mean?”
Victoria whispered:
“Thirty years ago, Blackwood Valley was destroyed.”
“Destroyed?”
“A fire.”
She swallowed.
“The entire village burned.”
Ethan looked at the map.
“But someone left this clue.”
Alexander nodded.
“Someone wanted us to find it.”
The journey to Blackwood Valley took six hours.
Nobody spoke much.
Too many questions.
Too many possibilities.
When they arrived...
They found almost nothing.
An abandoned road.
Old buildings.
Empty houses.
A place forgotten by the world.
But then...
They saw a small cottage at the edge of the valley.
Smoke rose from the chimney.
Someone lived there.
Olivia stepped forward.
Her heart was beating faster.
She did not know why.
But something inside her felt connected to this place.
Like a memory buried deep inside her.
They knocked.
No answer.
Alexander knocked again.
Still nothing.
Then Olivia noticed something hanging beside the door.
A small wooden charm.
A lotus flower.
The same symbol.
Her hands began shaking.
“This was mine.”
Everyone turned.
“What?”
She touched it.
“I don't know how.”
Her voice became quiet.
“But I remember this.”
The door slowly opened.
An elderly woman stood there.
Her hair was silver.
Her face showed years of pain.
But her eyes...
Her eyes looked exactly like Olivia's.
Nobody spoke.
The woman stared at Olivia.
And immediately began crying.
“No…”
Her hand covered her mouth.
“No, it can't be.”
Olivia froze.
The woman stepped closer.
Her trembling fingers touched Olivia's face.
A mother recognizing her child.
A child meeting the person she had dreamed about her entire life.
Then the woman whispered:
“Isabella.”
The name hit Olivia like lightning.
Nobody had called her that before.
Not in her entire life.
Her birth name.
Her forgotten name.
Her mother's name for her.
Olivia stepped back.
“How do you know that name?”
The woman cried.
“Because I gave it to you.”
Silence.
Victoria collapsed emotionally.
“Who are you?”
The woman looked at her.
And said:
“I am Sophia Vale.”
Everyone froze.
Alexander's face turned white.
“My wife…”
Sophia looked at him.
A thousand emotions crossed her face.
Pain.
Love.
Anger.
Relief.
“You're alive.”
Alexander whispered.
Sophia nodded.
“But I wasn't allowed to come home.”
Inside the cottage...
The truth finally began to emerge.
Sophia explained everything.
The night the children disappeared...
She discovered Antonio Moretti's plan.
She discovered that Richard was involved.
She discovered that Ethan and Olivia were targets.
But before she could expose them...
She was attacked.
“I was told Alexander was dead.”
She looked at her husband.
“I was told our son was gone.”
Her voice broke.
“And I was told Isabella was killed.”
Olivia reached for her hand.
“Then why didn't you find me?”
Sophia closed her eyes.
The question she had feared.
“Because I tried.”
A tear fell.
“I searched for you.”
“I followed every clue.”
“But every time I got close…”
She looked toward the window.
“Someone stopped me.”
Ethan frowned.
“Who?”
Sophia looked at Richard.
Everyone noticed.
Richard's face changed.
“No.”
Sophia whispered:
“Someone inside the Moretti family.”
Victoria stared at her husband.
Again.
The same accusation.
The same suspicion.
But this time...
There was something different.
Evidence.
Sophia walked toward an old cabinet.
She opened it.
Inside was a hidden folder.
She removed several documents.
“I kept these for thirty years.”
She placed them on the table.
The first document was a photograph.
Antonio Moretti.
Richard Moretti.
Evelyn Moretti.
And one more person.
A person nobody expected.
Victoria gasped.
Because the fourth person in the photograph...
Was someone they all knew.
Someone still alive.
Someone who had been helping them uncover the truth.
Daniel Cross.
The investigator.
Nobody spoke.
Ethan stared at the photograph.
“The investigator?”
Sophia nodded.
“He wasn't searching for the truth.”
“He was protecting the secret.”
Daniel's entire investigation suddenly looked different.
The questions.
The evidence.
The discoveries.
Everything.
Maybe it was not helping them.
Maybe it was controlling them.
Victoria looked horrified.
“Then why did he bring us here?”
Sophia answered:
“Because he wanted something.”
“What?”
Sophia looked at the documents.
Then said:
“The final piece of the jade pendant.”
Olivia looked down.
“The pendant?”
Sophia nodded.
“He doesn't want the truth revealed.”
“He wants what the truth unlocks.”
Suddenly...
The lights went out.
Everyone froze.
A loud crash came from outside.
Alexander moved toward the window.
Then stopped.
Because on the ground outside...
Was a body.
Someone had been watching the house.
Someone had followed them.
Ethan rushed outside.
The person was unconscious.
But alive.
And when Ethan turned the body over...
His blood ran cold.
Because the person lying there...
Was Daniel Cross.
The investigator.
In his hand was a piece of paper.
A final message.
Ethan picked it up.
Only one sentence was written.
“Do not trust Sophia.”
Everyone stared.
The woman Olivia had just found.
The woman she believed was her mother.
Was now being accused by the very man who brought them here.
Two mothers.
Two families.
Two versions of the truth.
May you like
And somewhere between them...
Was the person who had controlled everything for thirty years.
