CHAPTER 6 THE MAN WHO HID THE TRUTH FOR THIRTY YEARS.

The room became silent.

Not the uncomfortable silence of strangers.

Not the shocked silence of guests witnessing a scandal.

This was the silence of people realizing their entire lives had been built on something false.

Everyone looked at Richard Moretti.

The man who had spent thirty years being called a respected businessman.

A devoted husband.

A loving father.

Now he stood in the center of the room with one accusation hanging over him.

“The person who was supposed to be your father.”

Evelyn's words remained in the air.

Ethan stared at Richard.

His heart refused to accept what his mind was already considering.

“No.”

His voice was quiet.

“No, that’s impossible.”

Richard said nothing.

And that frightened Ethan more than any confession could have.

Because Richard had always been prepared.

For business negotiations.

For public attacks.

For enemies.

But now...

He had no defense.

“Dad.”

Ethan's voice cracked.

“Tell me she's lying.”

Richard looked at him.

And Ethan saw something he had never seen before.

Shame.

Not anger.

Not confidence.

Shame.

Victoria slowly turned toward her husband.

“Richard.”

Her voice was almost a whisper.

“What is she talking about?”

Richard closed his eyes.

“Victoria…”

“No.”

She stepped back.

“Not this time.”

Her hands trembled.

“For thirty years, I believed you were the only person who stayed beside me after Isabella disappeared.”

Her voice became stronger.

“I defended you.”

“I trusted you.”

“I built my life around you.”

She pointed toward Evelyn.

“But now she walks into my house and says you were part of the reason my daughter vanished.”

Richard looked away.

That movement destroyed the last piece of trust.

Victoria's face changed.

“You knew something.”

Richard remained silent.

“You knew.”

Evelyn watched the family collapse.

But unlike the others...

She looked satisfied.

“You all want answers.”

She walked slowly toward the table.

“Then stop pretending Richard is innocent.”

Richard finally spoke.

“Enough.”

His voice became cold.

The old Richard returned.

The powerful businessman.

The man who controlled every room.

“You have spent thirty years creating lies.”

Evelyn smiled.

“And you spent thirty years protecting yours.”

Ethan looked between them.

“What happened that night?”

Nobody answered.

So Ethan shouted.

“What happened?”

The sound echoed through the mansion.

For the first time in his life...

He did not care about protecting anyone's feelings.

Not Richard's.

Not Victoria's.

Not the Moretti name.

He needed the truth.

Richard slowly walked toward the fireplace.

The flames reflected in his eyes.

“Thirty years ago, I made the worst decision of my life.”

Everyone listened.

“I thought I was protecting my family.”

He looked at Ethan.

“But I destroyed it instead.”

Ethan's expression hardened.

“Start from the beginning.”

Richard nodded.

“The night Isabella disappeared…”

He paused.

“The police were not the only people searching.”

Victoria frowned.

“What does that mean?”

Richard looked at her.

“It means someone wanted Isabella found.”

A confused silence.

“Someone?”

Richard nodded.

“Someone who knew exactly where she was.”

Evelyn crossed her arms.

“And who was that?”

Richard looked directly at her.

“Your sister.”

Victoria froze.

“You?”

Evelyn smiled faintly.

“I never said I wasn't involved.”

Olivia stepped back.

The woman who claimed to have protected her...

Had admitted she was there.

Thirty years earlier.

The Moretti charity event had been the largest gathering the family had ever hosted.

Politicians.

Investors.

Celebrities.

Hundreds of people inside the estate.

Everyone focused on the celebration.

Nobody noticed the quiet movement in the garden.

Nobody noticed a woman watching Isabella play.

Nobody noticed the conversation between Evelyn and Richard.

Except one person.

Alexander Vale.

Ethan's biological father.

Alexander had been a close business partner of the Moretti family.

He knew Richard.

He trusted him.

But he also knew something dangerous.

A secret about the Moretti empire.

A secret worth billions.

And that secret involved Richard.

Present day.

Ethan looked at Richard.

“My father knew you?”

Richard nodded.

“Yes.”

“How?”

Richard looked uncomfortable.

“Alexander and I worked together.”

“On what?”

Silence.

Then Victoria answered.

“The technology division.”

Everyone turned.

Victoria continued.

“Before Ethan was born…”

She looked at Richard.

“There was a project.”

Richard nodded.

“A project that could have changed everything.”

Evelyn laughed.

“Or destroyed everything.”

Ethan frowned.

“What are you talking about?”

Daniel Cross, the investigator, opened another folder.

“I found this in the original case file.”

He placed a document on the table.

A contract.

The names were visible.

Moretti Industries.

Vale Technologies.

And below...

A hidden clause.

Ethan read it.

His expression changed.

“What is this?”

Daniel answered.

“An ownership agreement.”

He pointed at the document.

“If Alexander Vale died, his shares would transfer.”

“To whom?”

Daniel looked at Ethan.

“To his child.”

Ethan froze.

“My parents' shares?”

Daniel nodded.

“Your inheritance.”

A terrible realization appeared.

Richard understood.

Everyone understood.

Ethan was not just a lost child.

He was the owner of a fortune.

A fortune someone had spent thirty years trying to control.

Ethan looked at Richard.

“You knew.”

Richard did not deny it.

“You knew who I was.”

“Yes.”

“You knew I had inheritance.”

“Yes.”

“And you still adopted me.”

Richard looked broken.

“I wanted to protect you.”

Ethan laughed bitterly.

“Protect me?”

“You erased my identity.”

Richard shook his head.

“No.”

“Someone else did.”

Everyone turned.

Richard looked at Evelyn.

“She changed the records.”

Evelyn's smile disappeared.

For the first time...

She looked angry.

Richard continued.

“She wanted Ethan to disappear.”

Evelyn stepped forward.

“Careful.”

Richard ignored her.

“She wanted Isabella gone too.”

Victoria stared at Evelyn.

“Why?”

Evelyn's face became cold.

“Because neither of them belonged in this family.”

The words shocked everyone.

Olivia whispered:

“You hated us?”

Evelyn looked at her.

“No.”

A pause.

“I hated what you represented.”

She looked around the mansion.

“Everything I never had.”

Then Evelyn revealed something nobody expected.

“I didn't take Isabella because I wanted money.”

Victoria stared.

“Then why?”

Evelyn looked at Olivia.

“Because your daughter was the only person who could destroy Richard.”

Everyone froze.

Richard's expression changed.

“What are you saying?”

Evelyn smiled.

“I'm saying your precious husband had a secret.”

She pulled a small envelope from her coat.

Then placed it on the table.

Inside was an old photograph.

Richard.

Alexander Vale.

And another man.

A man everyone recognized.

The family's former lawyer.

The same lawyer who handled Isabella's disappearance.

On the back of the photograph was a date.

The night before Isabella vanished.

Victoria picked it up.

Her hands started shaking.

“What is this?”

Evelyn answered:

“The meeting where Richard planned to take control of Alexander Vale's company.”

Richard stepped forward.

“That's not true.”

Evelyn looked at him.

“Then explain why Alexander was going to expose you the next morning.”

Silence.

Ethan stared at Richard.

“Expose you for what?”

Richard said nothing.

And that was enough.

Suddenly...

A loud sound came from outside.

A car crash.

Everyone rushed toward the window.

A black vehicle had crashed into the mansion gate.

Security ran outside.

Seconds later, someone shouted:

“There's a person inside!”

Everyone froze.

Because the person inside the vehicle...

Was the one person who could answer everything.

Alexander Vale.

But that was impossible.

Because Alexander Vale had been declared dead thirty years ago.

The door opened.

A man was carried inside.

Older.

Injured.

But alive.

Ethan stared.

The man's eyes slowly opened.

And when he saw Ethan...

He whispered:

“Nathaniel…”

Ethan stopped breathing.

Nobody had called him that name before.

Nobody except one person.

His real father.

Alexander Vale looked at Richard.

Then Victoria.

Then Evelyn.

And finally...

His eyes landed on Olivia.

A tear fell from his face.

“They told me…”

He struggled to speak.

“They told me both children were dead.”

The entire room froze.

Victoria whispered:

“Alexander…”

He looked at her.

“Your daughter…”

He pointed toward Olivia.

“She was never lost.”

A pause.

“She was hidden.”

Then he looked at Ethan.

“And your son…”

His voice broke.

“He was stolen.”

The truth was finally coming.

But the biggest secret had not been revealed yet.

Because Alexander's next words would expose the person who planned everything.

The person who destroyed two families.

The person nobody suspected.

He looked directly at Richard.

And whispered:

“Your father was the mastermind.”

Everyone froze.

Because Richard Moretti's father...

May you like

The founder of the Moretti empire...

Had been dead for thirty years.
