Part 4 – The Collapse That Never Happened

The storm hit New York on a Thursday.

Wind slammed against glass. Rain turned streets into mirrors. The city held its breath under a violent sky.

Maya rushed to the library when she heard Liam was there alone.

Inside, the building groaned under pressure. Metal shifting. Glass vibrating.

For a moment—just a moment—it sounded like the past coming back.

Liam stood in the center of the atrium, frozen.

“This is it,” he whispered.

Maya grabbed his arm. “No. Look at me.”

He didn’t.

“Liam!”

A loud crack echoed through the structure.

People outside screamed.

It held.

Slowly, painfully

When the storm passed, the glass was still standing.

Liam sank to the floor, shaking—not from fear of the building.

But from realizing he had survived it.

Maya knelt beside him.

“You were waiting for it to fail,” she said softly.

He closed his eyes. “I didn’t know how to live in something that didn’t break.”
