It started with a report.
A minor structural issue. A hairline crack in one of the reinforced glass panels near the east wing. Engineers said it wasnât dangerousâjust thermal stress, a normal adjustment in a new structure.
But Liam went pale when he saw it.
That night, he stayed at the library until midnight, tracing the crack with his eyes like it was a wound only he could see.
Maya found him there.
âItâs safe,â she said softly.
Liam shook his head. âThatâs what they said before.â
Before the collapse. Before the funeral.
