Chapter 2 – The Truth Comes Out

"I'm making a scene over the way you've treated my wife."
Emily whispered his name.

"You've watched her cook."
"You've watched her clean."
"You've watched her do laundry."
"You've watched her carry groceries while pregnant."
"And somehow you convinced yourselves she was the selfish one whenever she looked tired."
His uncle frowned.
"She's the woman of the house."
Daniel nodded.
"Exactly."
"The woman of my house."
"Not your maid."
No one had an answer.
His cousin muttered under his breath.
"She never complained."
Emily lowered her eyes.
Daniel answered for her.
"Because every time she tried..."
He looked directly at Margaret.
"...someone told her to stop being dramatic."
Margaret's face tightened.
"I raised you better than this."
Daniel smiled sadly.
"No."
"You raised me to stay quiet."
"I'm raising my son differently."
Emily quietly began to cry again.
