The next morning, I did something I had avoided for years.
I opened every file connected to my old career.
Not the official copies.
The originals.
The ones hidden behind layers of security.
The ones nobody wanted me to see.

Someone had been guiding me toward Victor Hale long before I knew his name.
Daniel looked through the documents.
“This is impossible.”
“No.”
I shook my head.
“It’s intentional.”
He looked at me.
“You think someone planned your entire career?”

“Yes.”
A pause.
“And I think Victor was watching from the beginning.”
The investigation revealed a hidden program.

I stopped reading.

We found her living under a new identity.
When she saw me, she immediately started crying.

I stared at her.
“You know me?”
She looked terrified.
