Chapter 4: Everything Falls Apart

Three days later, the story spread.

Not because I wanted revenge.

Because evidence leaves very little room for lies.

The recordings.

The photographs.

Medical reports.

Security footage.

Neighbors who had heard arguments for months.

Daniel's reputation collapsed almost overnight.

The board of Monroe Holdings voted unanimously.

He was removed from every executive position.

Victor himself signed the resolution.

Evelyn resigned from every charity committee she proudly chaired.

Sponsors quietly disappeared.

Invitations stopped arriving.

Meanwhile, Richard filed for divorce.

No request for alimony.

No fight over property.

No financial negotiations.

Everything already belonged to me.

Daniel tried calling dozens of times.

I never answered.

Flowers arrived.

Letters followed.

Apologies came next.

Every one of them was returned unopened.

One afternoon he waited outside my office.

"I'm sorry," he whispered.

"I know."

"I've changed."

I looked at him for a long moment.

"No."

"You've simply discovered there are consequences."

May you like

His shoulders slumped.

For once, he had no control.
