Chapter 4 — The Last Person Standing

Three months later, the ballroom reopened.

The broken marble wall had been replaced.

Fresh flowers decorated the entrance.

The newspapers called it the most expensive charity gala scandal in the city's history.

They got one thing wrong.

It had never been about revenge.

It had been about accountability.

Victor was convicted on multiple charges, including assault, fraud, and witness intimidation.

Several executives who had helped cover up his crimes lost their positions.

The foundation he tried to steal was returned to the families it was created to serve.

On the night of the reopening gala, I stood beneath the same crystal chandeliers.

The same golden light reflected across the marble floor.

Only this time...

No one looked away when I entered.

My father joined me, offering a quiet smile.

"You could've walked away," he said.

"I almost did."

"But you didn't."

I looked around the room.

Real respect had replaced borrowed power.

Fear had been replaced by truth.

Sometimes justice doesn't arrive with sirens.

Sometimes...

It begins with a daughter quietly picking up her phone, wiping the blood from her lip, and saying only four words.

May you like

"Dad...

Lock every exit."
