Chapter 1 — Nobody Leaves

The first sound wasn't panic.

It was confusion.

Guests looked around as the ballroom doors clicked shut one by one. Heavy steel locks slid into place with quiet precision. Men in black suits appeared at every exit—not rushing, not shouting, simply standing there with military discipline.

The music stopped.

Champagne glasses froze halfway to smiling lips.

Someone laughed nervously.

"There must be some kind of mistake."

There wasn't.

My phone buzzed once.

"They're secured," my father said. "Every entrance. Every exit. No one leaves until you tell me."

I slipped the phone into my clutch.

Across the room, Victor Langley finally looked at me.

Minutes earlier, he had slammed me into the marble wall because I refused to sign over my shares in our family's foundation. He had expected another frightened woman willing to stay silent to protect her reputation.

Instead, he found me smiling.

A slow...

Quiet...

Terrifying smile.

"You've made a very expensive mistake," I told him.

His confidence flickered for the first time.

"What are you talking about?"

Before I could answer, every screen inside the ballroom suddenly came to life.

The gala's promotional video disappeared.

Security footage replaced it.

And the entire room watched Victor grab my arm...

Throw me across the marble floor...

And strike me while hundreds of people stood frozen.

Not one frame.

Not one second.

Missing.

The silence became unbearable.

No one applauded.

No one defended him.

They simply watched the truth they had hoped would disappear.
