CHAPTER 3:The Secret Hidden Inside an Old Diary

Emily barely slept.

Every sound inside the mansion reminded her that she didn't belong.

Meanwhile Victor couldn't stop asking himself one question.

Why had Marcus waited three years?

Why not kill him sooner?

Something didn't fit.

At sunrise Dominic entered carrying an old cardboard storage box recovered from Emily's ruined apartment.

"It survived the fire."

Inside were ordinary things.

Family photographs.

Utility bills.

A faded journal.

Victor picked it up.

Emily immediately reached for it.

"No."

Her voice cracked.

"Please don't."

Victor stopped.

"I'm sorry."

She slowly opened the diary herself.

Inside were hundreds of handwritten dates.

Every entry followed the same pattern.

January 11.

Changed Mr. Callaway's coffee.

The pills smelled wrong.

February 4.

Found loose brake line.

Reported anonymously.

June 19.

Kitchen delivery man wasn't on employee list.

Followed him.

Security arrested him.

Victor's heartbeat slowed.

He kept turning pages.

For three years...

Emily had quietly documented every strange event surrounding him.

Not once had she taken credit.

Not once had she asked for money.

Then he reached the first page.

It was dated four years earlier.

The day Victor had unknowingly saved her life.

Emily finally spoke.

"My father drove your supply trucks."

Victor looked up.

"He died protecting yours."

Years earlier rival gunmen had attacked a warehouse.

Victor ordered civilians evacuated before protecting his own shipment.

Emily's father survived the shooting.

For six months.

Long enough to tell his daughter one thing.

"That man saved dozens of families before saving his business."

Emily never forgot.

When she later discovered work as a maid inside Victor's mansion...

She accepted immediately.

Not to spy.

Simply to repay a debt.

One quiet act at a time.

Victor closed the diary.

For the first time in years...

The feared mafia boss felt ashamed.

He had memorized profits.

Weapons.

Territories.

Yet he never learned the story of the woman serving breakfast every morning.

That night gunfire erupted outside the mansion.

Marcus had returned.

And this time...

He wasn't alone.
