CHAPTER 2:The Maid Who Knew Too Much

Victor stared at Emily.
Not because she had accused his head of security.
Not because she looked terrified.
But because she hadn't blinked.
People lied to Victor every day.
Politicians lied.
Business partners lied.
Police officers lied.
Even family lied.
The one thing liars always did...
Was search his face for signs they had been believed.
Emily didn't.
She looked like someone already expecting to die.
Victor slowly slipped his phone back into his coat pocket.
"Dominic."
His operations chief stepped forward.
"Bring me another vehicle."
Dominic frowned.
"Boss?"
"Now."
Marcus Reed appeared from the opposite hallway less than thirty seconds later.
Perfect timing.
Too perfect.
Marcus smiled.
"Everything ready?"
Victor watched him carefully.
Then answered without emotion.
"Change of plans."
Marcus froze for the briefest fraction of a second.
Almost invisible.
But Victor noticed.
"We're taking the Bentley."
"The Bentley?" Marcus asked.
"Why?"
Victor smiled.
"Because I felt like it."
Marcus laughed politely.
But sweat had already formed near his hairline.
Victor climbed into another vehicle.
Exactly eighteen minutes later...
The armored SUV exploded.
The blast shattered every window inside the underground garage.
Concrete dust filled the air.
Fire alarms screamed.
Employees ran in every direction.
Marcus's face turned completely white.
Victor never looked at the flames.
He looked only at Emily.
She wasn't celebrating.
She was crying.
Because she understood something Victor understood too.
Marcus now knew someone had warned him.
And Emily was the only possible witness.
Within the hour, Marcus disappeared.
His phone was dead.
His apartment emptied.
His bank accounts drained.
He had planned his escape long before the bomb failed.
Victor stood inside the smoking garage.
"So..."
he murmured.
"It was never about killing me."
Dominic frowned.
"What do you mean?"
Victor looked at the wreckage.
"It was about replacing me."
Someone much bigger had financed Marcus.
Someone inside the organization.
The war had already begun.
That evening Victor ordered Emily moved into a secure guest suite inside his mansion.
She refused.
"I just want to go home."
"You don't have a home anymore," Victor answered quietly.
She didn't understand.
Until Dominic returned carrying photographs.
Her apartment.
Destroyed.
Every room overturned.
Blood covered one kitchen wall.
No body.
Just a message.
WE MISSED.
Emily collapsed into a chair.
May you like
Victor finally understood...
Saving his life had cost her everything.
