Chapter Six – A Secret from the Past
One snowy evening, Jonathan Reeves asked Emily to meet him in his office.
He looked unusually nervous.
"I've kept something from you."
He opened an old wooden box.
Inside lay yellowed letters.
Photographs.
A faded journal.
"They belonged to your grandmother."
Emily frowned.
"I thought I'd read everything she left me."
Jonathan shook his head.
"No."
"She asked me to wait until you were truly ready."
Inside the journal was a story Emily had never heard.
Decades earlier, her grandmother, Margaret Carter, had been born into poverty.
At the age of eight...

Emily closed the journal.

They had all begun with one little girl who refused to let cruelty define her.
