Outside the courthouse, Eleanor finally approached.
"You've embarrassed our family."
Maya looked at her.
"No."
"Your family embarrassed itself."
Eleanor's face hardened.
"You'll regret destroying your marriage."
Maya answered without raising her voice.
"I didn't destroy it."
"I simply stopped pretending it still existed."
