PART 2 â The Call That Changed Everything

PART 2 â The Call That Changed Everything
The phone rang only once.
"Dad."
There was a pause.
Then his voice came, steady as granite.
"What's wrong?"
Maya looked at herself in the rearview mirror. A crimson handprint still glowed across her cheek.
"I made a mistake."
"I know that's not why you're calling."
"My husband hit me."
Silence.
The dangerous kind.
"Where are you?"
"In my car."
"Stay there."
Twenty minutes later, a black SUV pulled beside her Tesla.
Her father stepped out wearing the same navy suit he'd worn while walking her down the aisle less than twenty-four hours earlier.
He didn't ask questions.
He simply looked at her face.
His jaw tightened.
"I trusted him," he said quietly.
"So did I."
He opened the passenger door.
"Let's fix this."
By noon, Preston was calling nonstop.
Thirty-two missed calls.
Nineteen text messages.
Five voicemails.
Maya ignored every one.
Instead, she sat inside her father's law office while his legal team spread documents across a conference table.
"The condo lease is yours."
"The vehicles are yours."
"The credit accounts are yours."
"The wedding expenses?"
Her father slid over another folder.
"My company paid every invoice."
Maya looked up.
"So...?"
"So your husband owns far less than he thinks."
That afternoon, every authorized user connected to Maya's financial accounts lost access.
Preston's premium credit card declined during lunch with clients.
His digital wallet stopped working.
The Tesla he occasionally drove remotely disabled his driver profile.
Even the luxury apartment refused his electronic key.
