CHAPTER 3: THE PRICE OF SILENCE

Andrew chased Clara into the grand courtyard.
Rain had begun to fall.
"Please."
His voice broke.
"I'll fix this."
Clara stopped beneath the stone archway.
"For three years I waited for you to say that."
"You never did."
Andrew lowered his head.
"I didn't know she would go that far."
"No."
Clara replied.
"You just never stopped her before."
The words struck harder than any scream.
Behind them, guests slowly left the ballroom.
Some avoided Patricia entirely.
Others whispered openly.
Videos of the torn wedding dress had already begun spreading online.
Within hours, Patricia Whitlock's name was everywhere.
Sponsors withdrew from her charity foundation.
Board members resigned.
The social circles she treasured suddenly refused her invitations.
Humiliation had finally found its way home.
Andrew watched everything collapse in a single afternoon.
Not because of Clara.
Because he had spent years protecting the wrong person.
Back inside the ballroom, the venue staff quietly removed every decoration bearing the Whitlock family name.
Clara walked through the empty hall one last time.
She gently picked up the torn piece of lace from the marble floor.
Instead of crying...
She smiled.
Not because her heart no longer hurt.
But because she no longer had to beg anyone to see her worth.
She handed the lace to the manager.
"Donate every flower to the children's hospital."
"What about the reception?"
"Feed everyone."
"The wedding may be over."
"But kindness shouldn't end with it."
May you like
The manager bowed once more.
"Yes, Madam."
