Chapter 7: The Biological Key

Julian ordered an immediate review of every genetic test performed on Khloe during pregnancy.
The results were worse than anyone expected.
Blood had been drawn during routine appointments and labeled as standard screening.
Additional samples were sent to a private laboratory owned indirectly by Thorne Global.
The laboratory analyzed fetal DNA without Khloe’s informed consent.
The report identified a hereditary immune-cell sequence Helena had incorporated into the Aurelia platform’s original verification model.
Victor had spent years attempting to reproduce it artificially.
He failed.
Khloe carried part of the sequence.
Her unborn daughter carried the complete expression.
“She is not a machine key,” Khloe said.
They sat inside Julian’s office with Miriam, Lena, and two independent geneticists.
“No,” Dr. Maya Rios answered. “But biological material derived from her could verify access to the protected protocols.”
“Blood?”
“Possibly cord blood. Later, other cell samples.”
Khloe covered her stomach.
Victor had not planned to kill the baby.
He planned to own every decision around her.
The forged guardianship documents would allow Marcus, then Victor, to authorize collection, research, and licensing.
“What happens if we refuse access?” Khloe asked.
“The patent remains under the trust,” Miriam said. “Thorne Global cannot legally use the protected protocols without guardian approval.”
“Then Victor’s medical division loses value.”
“Potentially billions.”
The conspiracy was no longer only about corporate voting power.
Victor’s company had announced a revolutionary infection-resistant implant scheduled for approval within eighteen months.
Its development apparently depended on technology locked behind Helena’s biological verification system.
Without Khloe’s daughter, Victor could not complete regulatory validation.
Julian contacted federal investigators.
Unauthorized genetic testing, forged consent, and attempted guardianship fraud brought multiple agencies into the case.
Thorne Global’s stock fell nine percent before noon.
Victor issued a public statement.
He described the allegations as “an emotional misunderstanding arising from a private family crisis.”
He expressed concern for Khloe and the baby.
He called Isabella’s conduct “unforgivable.”
He said nothing about the trust.
Marcus returned to the Thorne estate wearing a concealed recording device.
Police monitored from a surveillance van.
Khloe watched the audio feed from the hospital.
Victor met Marcus inside his private library.
“You look terrible,” Victor said.
“Khloe almost lost the baby.”
“But she didn’t.”
Marcus’s hands tightened.
“I saw Helena’s letter.”
Silence.
Then Victor poured himself a drink.
“Julian should have destroyed it.”
“So it is true.”
“Helena wrote many irrational things.”
“I am not your biological son.”
Victor looked at him.
“Biology is the least important part of fatherhood.”
Marcus laughed bitterly.
“Interesting time to discover that belief.”
“I raised you.”
“You shaped me into a tool.”
“I gave you everything.”
“You paid me to marry Khloe.”
“I secured your future.”
“You secured access to her trust.”
Victor set down the glass.
“You think she will forgive you because you turn against me now?”
“No.”
“Then why do this?”
“Because she deserves the truth.”
Victor smiled.
“Truth is what powerless people worship when they cannot control outcomes.”
Marcus moved closer.
“You arranged the medical order.”
“I protected the company.”
“You planned to sedate my wife and take our child.”
“Our child?”
The phrase came with quiet cruelty.
Marcus became still.
Victor opened a drawer and removed a medical file.
“Did Khloe never tell you about the fertility clinic?”
Khloe’s heartbeat accelerated as she listened.
Marcus and Khloe had undergone fertility treatment after two early miscarriages.
Their successful pregnancy resulted from their third embryo transfer.
“What are you saying?” Marcus asked.
“Your original samples were not viable.”
“That is false.”
“Simon confirmed it.”
Marcus stared at the file.
Victor continued.
“The embryo was created using Khloe’s egg and donor material.”
“Whose?”
Victor smiled faintly.
“Gabriel Rossi’s preserved sample.”
Marcus’s biological father.
Khloe stood so quickly Julian reached for her.
The room spun.
If true, the baby was biologically Marcus’s half-sister rather than his daughter.
The horror on Marcus’s face was visible only through his voice.
“You altered our fertility treatment.”
“I corrected a weakness.”
“Whose sample did Khloe consent to?”
“An anonymous screened donor.”
“You used my biological father.”
“The sequence produced the strongest likelihood of preserving both research lines.”
Helena’s bloodline and Gabriel Rossi’s.
Victor had attempted to combine the two families that created the original technology.
Not through partnership.
Through a child.
Marcus’s voice became dangerously quiet.
“You designed her.”
“I ensured the child would inherit what the company required.”
Khloe felt sick.
Julian ordered investigators to seize every fertility record immediately.
Marcus said, “You made me believe she was mine.”
“She is legally yours.”
“That is not the same.”
“No,” Victor replied. “It is more useful.”
Marcus struck him.
The sound came through the audio feed.
Police moved toward the estate.
Victor laughed.
“There you are. Emotional, weak, and predictable.”
Marcus breathed heavily.
Then Victor said the sentence that ended any possibility of denial.
“Khloe was never your wife. She was the final stage of a project your mother began thirty years ago.”
Sirens approached the estate.
Victor’s voice remained calm.
“You have betrayed the only father you have ever known.”
Marcus answered, “You were never a father.”
Police entered the library.
Victor was not arrested immediately.
His lawyers demanded warrants.
But investigators seized the file he had shown Marcus.
The first page contained a laboratory report.
The donor identification number matched a frozen sample registered to Gabriel Rossi.
The next page carried Khloe’s electronic consent.
The signature was hers.
But the donor number had been added three days later.
Someone had changed the record after she signed.
Khloe looked at Julian.
“I need a paternity test.”
May you like
“For Marcus?”
“For everyone.”
