CHAPTER 10 — THE DAUGHTER OF THE MAN THEY FEARED

The encrypted file sat on the screen.

No title.

No description.

No information.

Just a single code.

LM-001.

At first, I thought it was another file connected to Richard.

Another piece of evidence.

Another secret hidden inside the Whitmore empire.

But then I noticed something.

The initials.

L.M.

Lily Miller.

My daughter.

My entire body went still.

Because after everything I had uncovered…

After all the lies.

All the manipulation.

All the years Richard spent controlling her…

There was one thing I never expected.

A secret involving Lily herself.

“Dad?”

Her voice pulled me back.

She noticed my expression.

“What is it?”

I closed the file.

Too quickly.

And that told her everything.

“Don’t do that.”

I looked at her.

“Do what?”

“Protect me by hiding things.”

The words hit harder than I expected.

Because she was right.

I spent fifteen years protecting Lily from the darkness of my past.

But now…

That same instinct was becoming a wall between us.

I opened the file.

“Then we look at it together.”

She sat beside me.

Sophia and Claire stood behind us.

Everyone watched the screen.

The file decrypted.

A message appeared.

PROPERTY TRANSFER RECORD — PRIVATE TRUST

Lily frowned.

“What is that?”

I continued reading.

Then my expression changed.

Because I recognized the organization.

The same financial network I had spent years investigating.

The same network connected to Victor Hale.

The same network that disappeared after I exposed it.

But one detail made no sense.

The beneficiary.

LILY MILLER.

“No.”

The word escaped before I realized I had spoken.

Lily looked at me.

“What?”

I stared at the document.

“This can’t be real.”

Sophia stepped closer.

“What is it?”

I pointed at the screen.

“This trust was created twenty years ago.”

Claire looked confused.

“Twenty years?”

“Yes.”

“But Lily was a child.”

I nodded.

Exactly.

That was the problem.

The trust contained billions.

Not millions.

Billions.

Assets hidden through dozens of companies.

Real estate.

Investment funds.

International accounts.

A fortune carefully protected for one person.

Lily.

My daughter.

The same girl Richard called unstable.

The same woman he tried to destroy.

The same person everyone believed had nothing.

Was secretly the owner of one of the most powerful financial networks in existence.

Lily stared at the numbers.

“I don’t understand.”

Neither did I.

Because I had spent my entire life protecting her.

And somehow…

Someone had been protecting her before I even knew she needed it.

“Who created it?”

I asked.

The answer appeared.

And my heart stopped.

ELIZABETH MILLER.

Her mother.

Lily’s mother.

My wife.

The woman I lost fifteen years ago.

Nobody spoke.

Because that name changed everything.

My wife had always been gentle.

Kind.

Private.

The person who brought warmth into every room.

She was the reason I left my old life behind.

The reason I wanted normal.

The reason I became just a father.

But now…

I was discovering that the woman I loved had been carrying secrets too.

Lily covered her mouth.

“Mom?”

I nodded slowly.

“She knew.”

“About what?”

I looked at the documents.

“About everything.”

The truth began to unfold.

Before she died, Elizabeth had discovered something.

A hidden financial operation.

A system where powerful families protected each other.

The Whitmores.

Victor Hale.

Others.

People who believed money made them untouchable.

She found evidence.

Enough evidence to destroy them.

But she also discovered something more dangerous.

The people involved knew she had found it.

So she created a backup plan.

A trust.

A protection system.

A way to ensure that if anything happened to her…

Lily would never be powerless.

Lily’s eyes filled with tears.

“Mom knew something would happen?”

I couldn’t answer immediately.

Because the possibility was painful.

“Maybe.”

“No.”

Her voice broke.

“She knew.”

I looked at her.

“She knew they would come after her.”

A tear rolled down her cheek.

“And she still left me?”

I immediately shook my head.

“No.”

I held her hand.

“She didn’t leave you.”

“She protected you.”

Lily looked at me.

“She knew you would need this.”

I nodded.

“Yes.”

At that moment, everything changed.

Richard didn’t marry Lily because she was connected to me.

He married her because someone told him she was valuable.

Not emotionally.

Financially.

He wasn’t trying to control a wife.

He was trying to access an empire.

An empire Lily never knew existed.

The phone rang.

My team.

I answered.

“Arthur.”

The voice was serious.

“We found another connection.”

“What?”

“Richard’s financial records.”

I looked at the screen.

“Explain.”

“He wasn’t only receiving money from Victor Hale.”

A pause.

“He was preparing to transfer ownership of Lily’s trust.”

Silence.

Lily froze.

“What?”

I looked at her.

“He planned to take everything.”

The room became cold.

Not because of the money.

Because of what it meant.

Richard never loved her.

He was never trying to save their marriage.

He was waiting.

Waiting for the right moment to steal everything her mother left behind.

At Whitmore Tower…

Richard was having his own discovery.

His lawyer entered the office.

“We have a problem.”

Richard looked up.

“Another one?”

The lawyer placed a document on the desk.

“This came from the financial investigation.”

Richard opened it.

His face changed.

“What is this?”

The lawyer swallowed.

“The trust.”

Richard stared.

“The Lily Miller Trust.”

For several seconds…

He said nothing.

Then:

“How much?”

The lawyer hesitated.

“Estimated value…”

A pause.

“Over twelve billion dollars.”

Richard stood.

Twelve billion.

More than his entire company.

More than everything his family had built.

And it had been hidden.

Owned by the woman he underestimated.

The woman he thought was weak.

His wife.

Richard’s expression changed.

Not regret.

Not guilt.

Greed.

Pure greed.

“She doesn’t know.”

The lawyer looked uncomfortable.

“Richard…”

“She doesn’t know.”

He smiled.

A cold, empty smile.

“Then we still have time.”

That night, Lily sat alone outside.

I joined her.

For a while, we watched the sky.

Finally, she spoke.

“My whole life was a lie.”

I shook my head.

“No.”

She looked at me.

“What wasn’t?”

I answered:

“You.”

She was quiet.

“Richard lied.”

“The Whitmores lied.”

“People around you lied.”

“But you?”

I shook my head.

“You were always real.”

She looked down.

“I feel like I don’t know who I am anymore.”

I sat beside her.

“Then don’t become what they want you to be.”

“What do you mean?”

“Richard wanted you afraid.”

“Victor wants you angry.”

“The world wants you broken.”

I looked at her.

“Don’t give any of them what they want.”

Inside the cabin…

The system suddenly activated.

A message appeared.

Not from my team.

Not from Victor.

From an unknown sender.

One sentence.

ARTHUR, YOU HAVE BEEN PROTECTING THE WRONG SECRET.

Then another file appeared.

A photograph.

A hospital record.

A name.

And a date.

My blood turned cold.

Because the file revealed something impossible.

Something about Lily’s birth.

Something even Elizabeth had hidden from me.

I stared at the screen.

Unable to move.

May you like

Because after fifteen years…

I was about to discover the final secret my wife took to her grave.
