CHAPTER 7:THE DAUGHTER WHO CAME BACK FOR JUSTICE
For several seconds…
Nobody moved.
Nobody spoke.
The young woman standing in the doorway simply stared at us.
At me.
At Emily.
At Victoria.

I looked at the twins.
Lily nodded.

“Then why didn’t you tell me?”
He looked ashamed.
“Because I was part of the problem.”
The confession surprised me.

Marcus took a deep breath.
“Victoria’s father paid me years ago.”
Emily’s eyes widened.
“You helped them?”
Marcus looked down.
“Yes.”
The room went silent.
“I helped hide evidence.”
“I helped make Daniel disappear.”
Emily’s face filled with anger.
“You knew what happened to him?”
Marcus looked at her.
“I knew he was alive.”
Everyone froze.
“What?”
Emily stepped forward.
“You knew?”
Marcus nodded slowly.
“Yes.”
“Where was he?”
Marcus looked at the floor.
“He was placed under protection.”
“Why?”
“Because he had evidence.”
My heart started racing.
“Evidence of what?”
Marcus looked at Victoria.
“The entire company fraud.”
“And the people involved.”
I stared at Victoria.
“Your family.”
She didn’t deny it.
Because there was nothing left to deny.
Then Lily spoke.
“There’s something else.”
Everyone looked at her.
She reached into her bag.
And pulled out a small recorder.
“I recorded everything.”
Victoria’s eyes widened.
“What?”
Lily smiled sadly.
“I knew you would try to deny it.”
She pressed a button.
A voice filled the room.
Victoria’s voice.
Cold.
Clear.
“You need to understand something.”
The recording continued.
“People like Daniel don’t disappear by accident.”
My blood ran cold.
The audio continued.
“You either remove the problem…”
“Or the problem destroys you.”
Emily covered her mouth.

Victoria looked terrified.

The recording stopped.

Then my phone suddenly rang.
Everyone jumped.
The screen showed an unknown number.
I answered.
“Hello?”

Emily froze.
