CHAPTER 4:THE TRUTH ABOUT EMILY’S SON

I stood there holding the custody papers in my hands.

The same hands that had signed business contracts worth millions.

The same hands that had held my children the day they were born.

But now…

They were shaking.

Because the woman I married had been preparing to take my children away from me.

Not because she loved them.

Because she wanted control.

I looked at Victoria.

The woman who had stood beside me at our wedding.

The woman who had promised me forever.

“How long?”

My voice was barely above a whisper.

“How long have you been planning this?”

Victoria didn’t answer immediately.

She walked toward the table.

Slowly.

Calmly.

Like this was just another business negotiation.

“Long enough.”

Those two words cut deeper than any scream could have.

Emily held my twins tighter.

I noticed something.

She wasn’t looking at Victoria anymore.

She was looking at me.

Like she was waiting for me to finally understand.

“Ethan…”

She whispered.

“There’s something else you need to know.”

I turned toward her.

“What?”

Emily looked down.

And for the first time since I found her tied to that bed…

She looked ashamed.

“It’s about my son.”

My chest tightened.

The same son Victoria had insulted.

The same child she had said was going to die.

“What about him?”

Emily swallowed hard.

“My son isn’t just sick.”

The room became silent.

“He’s sick because of something Victoria did.”

My entire body went cold.

Victoria’s expression changed.

“Be careful what you accuse me of.”

Emily looked at her.

And there was no fear anymore.

Only pain.

“Three months ago, my son was admitted to the hospital.”

Her voice trembled.

“The doctors couldn’t understand why his condition kept getting worse.”

I listened carefully.

Every word.

Every breath.

“Then I discovered something.”

Emily reached into her bag.

She pulled out a small folder.

Inside were medical reports.

Photographs.

Records.

She handed them to me.

I opened the first page.

My eyes moved across the document.

And then stopped.

A hospital name.

A date.

A signature.

Victoria’s name.

I looked up.

“No…”

Emily nodded.

“Yes.”

My fingers tightened around the papers.

“What am I looking at?”

Emily wiped away her tears.

“Your wife secretly contacted the hospital where my son was being treated.”

Victoria laughed.

A cold, dismissive laugh.

“You’re making a ridiculous accusation.”

Emily ignored her.

“She used her influence to remove me from my son's emergency contact list.”

My heart sank.

“Why?”

Emily looked at Victoria.

“Because she knew if I left this house…”

“She would lose control.”

Victoria stepped forward.

“Enough.”

But Emily continued.

“She knew my son was the only thing that could make me fight back.”

My jaw tightened.

“You threatened her child?”

Victoria’s eyes narrowed.

“You’re acting like I’m some monster.”

I stared at her.

“Aren’t you?”

For the first time…

Victoria looked hurt.

Not because of what she did.

Because I finally saw her.

“You have no idea what I sacrificed for this family.”

I almost laughed.

“Sacrifice?”

I pointed at Emily.

“You tied a woman to our bed.”

“You terrified our children.”

“You tried to take them away from me.”

My voice became colder.

“Don’t talk to me about sacrifice.”

Victoria’s face hardened.

“You think Emily is innocent?”

She looked at the nanny.

“You really believe she just appeared here to save your family?”

Emily looked away.

And again…

I felt that strange fear.

There was still something she hadn’t told me.

“Emily.”

I said quietly.

“What aren’t you telling me?”

Her eyes filled with tears.

“I didn’t come here by accident.”

Victoria smiled.

“There it is.”

Emily closed her eyes.

“I knew Victoria before I became your nanny.”

My stomach dropped.

“How?”

She took a shaky breath.

“Because years ago…”

“I worked for her family.”

I stared.

“What?”

Emily looked at Victoria.

“She knows me.”

Victoria crossed her arms.

“Tell him the rest.”

Emily’s voice became quieter.

“Your wife’s family destroyed mine.”

Silence.

The nursery suddenly felt smaller.

“What does that mean?”

Emily looked at my twins.

Then at me.

“My father was the accountant for Victoria’s father’s company.”

Victoria’s expression changed slightly.

“He discovered financial fraud.”

My eyes widened.

“And?”

Emily’s tears fell.

“He was going to expose them.”

A pause.

“Two days later…”

“He disappeared.”

Nobody spoke.

Not even Victoria.

“My mother spent years trying to find out what happened.”

Emily continued.

“Then she died believing my father abandoned us.”

I looked at Victoria.

“And your family?”

Emily shook her head.

“They covered it up.”

Victoria finally spoke.

“That’s ancient history.”

Emily turned toward her.

“No.”

Her voice was stronger.

“It’s the reason I came here.”

I stared at her.

“You became my nanny because of revenge?”

Emily didn’t answer.

And that silence told me everything.

My heart sank.

Because suddenly…

I didn’t know who the victim was anymore.

Emily stepped closer.

“I wanted answers.”

She whispered.

“I wanted to know what really happened to my father.”

“And when I got close to Victoria…”

Her voice broke.

“I found something worse.”

I looked at her.

“What?”

Emily reached into her pocket.

And pulled out a small flash drive.

“I found proof.”

Victoria’s face went completely pale.

“What did you do?”

Emily looked at me.

“She didn’t just destroy my family.”

“She has been hiding something from you too.”

I stared at the flash drive.

“What is it?”

Emily hesitated.

Then whispered:

“The truth about your twins.”

My blood froze.

“What about my children?”

Victoria suddenly moved.

Fast.

Too fast.

She reached toward Emily.

But I stepped between them.

“Don’t.”

The entire room went silent.

Victoria stared at me.

And for the first time…

She looked afraid.

Because she knew.

The game was over.

But before Emily could explain…

The lights in the nursery suddenly went out.

Darkness swallowed the room.

A second later…

The sound of glass breaking came from downstairs.

Everyone froze.

May you like

Someone else was inside the house.

And they weren’t here to talk.
