CHAPTER 6:THE FINAL LIE VICTORIA TOLD ME

The sound of my children crying cut through the silence.
A sound that should have brought me comfort.
A sound that should have reminded me of everything I had built.
Instead…
It felt like the entire world underneath me had collapsed.
“One of my children…”
I repeated the words slowly.
My voice didn’t even sound like mine.
“Was never meant to be mine?”
Victoria looked at me.
And for once…
She had no answer.
No clever explanation.
No perfect lie.
Just fear.
Emily immediately moved closer to the twins, trying to calm them.
But I couldn’t look away from Victoria.
The woman I had shared my life with.
The woman who had slept beside me.
The woman who had held my hand when our children were born.
“How long?”
My voice shook.
“How long have you known?”
Victoria looked down.
“Ethan…”
“How long?”
The room went quiet.
Finally, she whispered:
“Since the day they were born.”
The words hit harder than I expected.
I stepped backward.
“No.”
Victoria moved toward me.
“Please listen—”
“No.”
My voice became louder.
“You knew?”
She started crying.
“I was afraid.”
I stared at her.
“Afraid?”
I pointed toward my children.
“You lied to me for six months.”
“You manipulated everyone around you.”
“You tried to take my children away.”
“And now you want me to believe you were afraid?”
Victoria wiped her tears.
“You don’t understand what happened.”
“Then explain.”
My voice was cold.
“Explain everything.”
She looked toward Marcus.
Then Emily.
Then finally at me.
And she knew.
There was no escape anymore.
“The night they were born…”
Victoria whispered.
“I received a phone call.”
I listened.
Every word.
Every breath.
“The doctor told me there was a problem with the records.”
My heart tightened.
“What problem?”
She swallowed.
“The hospital made a mistake.”
Emily stared at her.
“A mistake?”
Victoria nodded.
“Yes.”
She looked at me.
“The twins were born through an emergency delivery.”
“One of the babies had complications.”
I felt my chest tighten.
“And?”
Victoria closed her eyes.
“And during the chaos…”
“The paperwork was mixed up.”
Silence.
My hands curled into fists.
“Mixed up how?”
Victoria didn’t answer.
Marcus did.
“Because the hospital records showed something different.”
I turned toward him.
“What?”
He looked at me.
“One of the twins was not connected to your family’s medical records.”
My breathing stopped.
“What are you saying?”
Marcus looked at Victoria.
“She knew there was a possibility one child belonged to someone else.”
The room felt like it was spinning.
I looked at my babies.
My children.
The two little lives I had loved from the moment I saw them.
And suddenly…
A terrifying question entered my mind.
Was everything I believed a lie?
Victoria stepped closer.
“But I never knew for certain.”
I looked at her.
“You expect me to believe that?”
“It’s true.”
Her voice broke.
“I spent months trying to find out.”
“Quietly.”
“Without destroying our family.”
I laughed.
A painful, empty laugh.
“You destroyed it yourself.”
Victoria looked away.
Then Emily spoke.
“She’s leaving something out.”
Everyone turned toward her.
Emily held the twins carefully.
Her eyes were filled with sadness.
“She always leaves out the part that makes her look guilty.”
Victoria’s expression darkened.
“Stay out of this.”
Emily shook her head.
“No.”
Her voice became stronger.
“You destroyed my family.”
“You hurt my son.”
“You hurt me.”
“And you almost destroyed his.”
She looked at me.
“Ethan, she knew more than she admitted.”
My eyes moved back to Victoria.
“What does she mean?”
Victoria said nothing.
That silence was enough.
“Tell me.”
Still nothing.
“Victoria.”
My voice became dangerous.
“Tell me the truth.”
Finally…
She broke.
“I knew who the father was.”
The room froze.
My heart stopped.
“What?”
Victoria’s tears fell.
“I knew.”
“Who?”
She looked at the twins.
Then at me.
“His name was Daniel.”
The name meant nothing.
Until Emily reacted.
Her face changed.
“Daniel?”
Victoria looked at her.
“Yes.”
Emily went pale.
“No…”
I looked between them.
“What?”
Emily’s voice trembled.
“Daniel was my brother.”
The room became completely silent.
My mind struggled to process the words.
“Your brother?”
Emily nodded slowly.
“He disappeared years ago.”
Marcus looked down.
Because he knew.
I looked at Victoria.
“You knew?”
She whispered:
“Yes.”
My entire body went cold.
“You knew my children might be connected to Emily’s family…”
“And you still hid everything?”
Victoria cried.
“I was trying to protect them.”
“No.”
Emily shook her head.
“You were protecting yourself.”
Victoria suddenly turned toward Emily.
“You don’t understand!”
Her voice broke.
“I lost everything!”
Everyone froze.
Because it was the first time Victoria sounded human.
Not cruel.
Not powerful.
Just broken.
“My entire life was built on lies.”
She looked at me.
“I thought if I kept control…”
“If I kept this family together…”
“Maybe everything would disappear.”
I stared at her.
“You don’t keep a family together by destroying everyone inside it.”
Victoria lowered her head.
And then…
She said something that changed everything.
“There’s one more truth.”
Nobody moved.
“What now?”
She looked at Emily.
Then at me.
“The twins…”
“They are not the only children connected to Daniel.”
Emily’s face changed.
“What?”
Victoria whispered:
“He had another child.”
My heart sank.
“Where is that child?”
Victoria looked toward the hallway.
And then I heard it.
A sound.
A person moving outside.
Someone listening.
Marcus immediately turned.
“Wait…”
The nursery door slowly opened.
A young woman stood there.
Maybe twenty years old.
Her eyes were full of anger.
And pain.
She looked directly at Emily.
Then at me.
And said:
“My name is Lily.”
A pause.
“I’m Daniel’s daughter.”
Nobody spoke.
Then she looked at Victoria.
“The woman who destroyed my family…”
“She’s the reason I came back.”
Victoria stepped backward.
Because she knew.
The final secret had arrived.
May you like
And this time…
She couldn’t control the story anymore.
