Beatriz also faced criminal charges for conspiracy, falsifying medical documents, and assisting in the abuse.
The mansion where I had lived in fear was transformed into a foundation that provided temporary housing, legal assistance, and counseling for survivors of domestic violence.
We named it The Second Sunrise Center.
Every woman who walked through its doors reminded me that survival is not the end of the story.
