CHAPTER 5 — THE REAL ENEMY

Leandro refused to trust his mother.
But he also couldn't ignore what she had revealed.
He summoned the council.
Seven men arrived.
Seven powerful members of the Rossi organization.
They sat around the same table where decisions about the family had been made for decades.
Leandro placed the old documents before them.
"Someone has been hiding an heir."
Nobody spoke.
Then one council member smiled.
"You've been listening to rumors."
Leandro looked at him.
"Your name is in the records."
The smile vanished.
Another man stood.
"This is absurd."
Leandro threw a photograph onto the table.
His father's handwriting was visible.
So was the council's seal.
One by one, the men's faces changed.
Estelle watched from the doorway.
She finally understood.
Maribel had never been the mastermind.
She had been part of something larger.
The council had ordered the identity exchange.
Maribel had carried it out.
But one person had benefited more than anyone.
The council's chairman.
Victor Salvatore.
Victor smiled.
"Your father was unstable."
Leandro stepped forward.
"My father knew what you did."
"And now he's dead."
Leandro's eyes turned cold.
Victor leaned back.
"Be careful, Leandro."
Then he looked at Estelle.
"Because if she truly is the missing heir, she has no idea what belongs to her."
Estelle frowned.
May you like
Victor smiled.
"The Rossi fortune."
