Chapter 11 — The Last Thing They Couldn't Take

Months later, I visited the vineyard one final time.
The estate had been seized by federal authorities.
Auction signs stood where luxury cars once lined the driveway.
The grand dining room was empty.
Only the long wooden table remained.
I walked to the exact place where Adrian had shattered the porcelain plate across my head.
The scar hidden beneath my hair would always remain.
But it no longer reminded me of pain.
It reminded me of survival.
Before leaving, I placed a small handwritten note on the table.
It read:
"A house can be stolen.
Money can disappear.
Power always fades.
But the truth waits patiently...
Until someone is brave enough to carry it into the light."
Then I walked away.
Without looking back.
For the first time in years...
I wasn't leaving my life behind.
May you like
I was finally walking toward it.
The End.
