CHAPTER 14 — THE TRIAL OF THE FORGOTTEN CHILD

The courtroom was silent.

Not the peaceful kind of silence.

The heavy kind.

The kind that came before a storm.

Hundreds of people filled the room.

Journalists.

Lawyers.

Family members.

Everyone wanted to hear the truth.

After fifteen years of secrets, lies, and unanswered questions...

The Laurent family was finally facing the world.

And at the center of it all sat Lucas.

The boy who had once been invisible.

The boy who cleaned shoes on the streets of Paris.

The boy who received a small piece of cake from another child on a rainy afternoon.

Now...

He was the person who could bring down one of the most powerful families in Europe.

The doors opened.

Alexander Laurent entered first.

Beside him walked Lucas.

The cameras exploded.

Flash after flash.

But Lucas didn't look at them.

He looked ahead.

He had learned something important.

People could judge him.

They could question him.

They could doubt him.

But they could never take away the truth.

Behind them walked Isabelle.

Her face was calm.

But her eyes carried fifteen years of pain.

And behind her...

Victoria Laurent.

The woman everyone believed was the villain.

The woman who had been blamed for the disappearance.

The woman who now held the key to proving the truth.

The judge entered.

Everyone stood.

Then the trial began.

The prosecutor looked toward the Laurent family.

"For fifteen years, Paris believed a child disappeared because of a tragedy."

He paused.

"But today, we know it was not a tragedy."

"It was a plan."

The courtroom became silent.

"Someone deliberately erased a child's identity."

"Someone stole fifteen years of his life."

The prosecutor looked at Lucas.

"And that child is sitting here today."

The first witness called was Henri Dubois.

The former hospital administrator.

He walked slowly to the stand.

The prosecutor approached.

"Mr. Dubois, did you alter hospital records fifteen years ago?"

Henri lowered his head.

"Yes."

The room erupted.

The judge demanded silence.

"Why?"

Henri looked toward Lucas.

"Because I was afraid."

"Afraid of whom?"

A long pause.

Then:

"Sebastian Laurent."

Everyone looked toward Sebastian.

Sitting alone.

Expressionless.

The prosecutor continued.

"Did Sebastian Laurent pay you?"

Henri nodded.

"Yes."

"To do what?"

Henri closed his eyes.

"To change the identity of Adrian Laurent."

The words hit the courtroom.

Lucas looked down.

His entire life had been built on a lie.

A name that wasn't his.

A past that was stolen.

The prosecutor asked:

"And what happened after the records were changed?"

Henri answered:

"Isabelle Moreau took the child."

The courtroom became confused.

The prosecutor turned.

"She kidnapped her own son?"

Henri shook his head.

"No."

Everyone listened.

"She was protecting him."

The second witness was Isabelle.

The entire room watched as she walked to the stand.

Alexander looked at her.

A mixture of love and pain.

The prosecutor approached.

"Mrs. Moreau..."

She corrected him softly.

"Laurent."

A small reaction moved through the courtroom.

Because after fifteen years...

She still considered herself Alexander's wife.

The prosecutor continued.

"Why did you hide your son?"

Isabelle took a deep breath.

"Because I discovered someone planned to destroy him."

"Who?"

She looked toward Sebastian.

"Sebastian Laurent."

The room became tense.

But then the prosecutor asked the question everyone expected.

"If Sebastian was responsible..."

"Why did you disappear?"

Isabelle became silent.

Her eyes filled.

"Because the truth was bigger than Sebastian."

Everyone waited.

She continued:

"Sebastian was only a piece."

The prosecutor frowned.

"Then who was behind everything?"

Isabelle looked toward Victoria.

The courtroom gasped.

Victoria remained still.

Isabelle spoke:

"Victoria Laurent."

The room exploded.

Everyone reacted.

Alexander looked shocked.

Lucas looked confused.

The prosecutor turned toward Victoria.

"Mrs. Laurent?"

Victoria remained calm.

"Let her finish."

Isabelle continued.

"Victoria started the plan."

A pause.

"But she didn't finish it."

The entire courtroom listened.

"Because she realized Sebastian wasn't trying to remove Adrian."

Isabelle's voice became stronger.

"He was trying to erase him."

The prosecutor approached Victoria.

"Is this true?"

Victoria looked around.

A woman who had spent her entire life controlling situations.

But now...

There was nowhere left to hide.

"Yes."

The courtroom exploded again.

Alexander closed his eyes.

Even though he suspected it...

Hearing the confession still hurt.

The prosecutor continued:

"You admit you were involved?"

Victoria nodded.

"Yes."

"Why?"

Victoria looked at Lucas.

And for the first time...

The world saw something unexpected.

Regret.

"I believed I was protecting the Laurent family."

She looked down.

"I was wrong."

Then came the biggest revelation.

The prosecutor presented evidence.

Financial records.

Secret recordings.

Messages.

Everything connecting Sebastian to the crime.

But one final document changed everything.

A hidden contract.

Signed fifteen years ago.

The purpose?

Removing Adrian Laurent from the inheritance.

The signature?

Sebastian Laurent.

The courtroom went silent.

Sebastian's lawyer stood.

"This proves nothing."

But then...

Another person entered.

Someone nobody expected.

An elderly woman.

Everyone turned.

Victoria looked shocked.

"Margaret?"

The woman walked slowly.

She was a former Laurent family employee.

The person who had worked inside the mansion for thirty years.

The judge allowed her testimony.

She looked at Sebastian.

"I saw everything."

Sebastian's face changed.

"No..."

Margaret continued.

"Fifteen years ago, I saw you take the necklace from the nursery."

Everyone froze.

The blue necklace.

The symbol of the lost heir.

"The necklace was supposed to disappear with the child."

She looked at Lucas.

"But the child survived."

The trial lasted three days.

Three days of secrets.

Three days of painful memories.

Three days where a family built on power was forced to face the damage it caused.

Finally...

The judge delivered the decision.

Sebastian Laurent was found guilty of fraud, conspiracy, identity manipulation, and crimes related to the disappearance of Adrian Laurent.

Victoria Laurent was found guilty of involvement but received a reduced sentence after cooperating and revealing the full truth.

The courtroom remained silent.

Then the judge looked toward Lucas.

"Mr. Laurent."

Lucas stood.

"You spent fifteen years without your true identity."

"You were denied a childhood."

"You were denied your family."

The judge paused.

"But today..."

"You have the truth."

Outside the courthouse...

The rain began falling again.

Just like the day Lucas met Subi.

The reporters surrounded them.

But Lucas ignored the cameras.

He looked at Subi.

The same boy who changed his life.

"You know something?"

Subi smiled.

"What?"

Lucas looked at the rain.

"Everything started because of cake."

Subi laughed.

"Then cake is powerful."

Lucas smiled.

"Maybe."

That evening...

Alexander, Isabelle, and Lucas stood together outside the Laurent mansion.

A family that had been broken for fifteen years.

Finally together.

But Lucas still had one question.

He looked at Isabelle.

"Why did you really keep the necklace?"

She smiled sadly.

"Because your father gave it to me."

Alexander looked surprised.

"My father?"

Isabelle nodded.

"Before you were born, your grandfather told me something."

"What?"

She touched the blue gemstone.

"He said this necklace would always find its way home."

Lucas looked at it.

The rain fell softly.

A small piece of cake.

A forgotten necklace.

A lost child.

Everything had been connected.

But nobody knew...

May you like

The necklace still held one final secret.

A secret that would reveal the true origin of the Laurent fortune.
