Court recessed for one hour.
Nobody left.
News helicopters circled above the courthouse.
Outside, television stations abandoned the murder story.
Now every headline asked the same question.

Inside a private witness room, Margaret finally broke.
She stared at the necklace lying on the table.
"I should have destroyed it."
Her lawyer leaned forward.
"Tell me everything."
Margaret nodded slowly.
"Arthur wasn't the man everyone believed."
Thirty-two years earlier...
Arthur had fallen in love with Lily, a schoolteacher.
She became pregnant.

"And her daughter?"
Margaret looked toward the hallway where the little girl waited.
"She's raising her granddaughter."
The attorney's eyes widened.
"The child..."
"...is Arthur Sterling's granddaughter."
The necklace hadn't exposed a killer.
