Chapter 3 – The Man Who Never Asked Questions

After catching Hannah before she collapsed, Daniel carried her himself to the estate's private medical suite.
Claire followed.
"Daniel, she's manipulating you."
No answer.
The physician completed the examination before speaking carefully.
"Stress nearly triggered premature labor."
Daniel's jaw tightened.
"Will the baby survive?"
"If she rests, yes."
Claire laughed nervously.
"You can't possibly care this much about a servant."
Daniel slowly turned toward her.
"When exactly did I give you permission to discipline my employees?"
"You were busy."
"So you decided to become me?"
The room became painfully quiet.
Daniel dismissed everyone except Martin.
Only then did he ask Hannah a question no one expected.
"What were you looking for downstairs?"
She stared at him.
"You already know."
"I know someone has been stealing through my companies for years."
His voice carried neither anger nor surprise.
"I've spent eighteen months trying to find them."
Hannah's breathing stopped.
"You...know?"
"I know enough."
She reached beneath the seam of her dress and removed the hidden memory card.
Daniel inserted it into his laptop.
His expression changed page by page.
Forged signatures.
Fraudulent loans.
Murder disguised as workplace accidents.
Then one photograph made him freeze.
A personnel file.
CALEB MONROE.
Status:
Detained.
Transfer Pending.
Daniel looked up sharply.
"Your brother isn't dead."
Hannah's eyes filled with tears.
"You know where he is?"
"I know who took him."
May you like
He slowly closed the laptop.
"And they aren't working for me."
