The courtroom remained frozen.
No one spoke.
No one even seemed to breathe.
The tiny pink toy phone continued playing through the courtroom speakers.
Clara's voice became clearer with every passing second.
"...Arthur never suspected she kept copies."
Another voice answered.
A man's.
"If Mrs. Gable goes to prison, the board will panic. We take Sterling Industries before anyone notices."
The recording ended.

"Turn that off!"
Clara lunged toward the little girl.

Judge Harrison slammed the gavel.

Mrs. Gable stared at the child in disbelief.
"Emily..."
The girl turned toward her.
"I'm sorry I came late."
Tears rolled down Mrs. Gable's face.
"You shouldn't have come."
Emily shook her head.
"Mr. Sterling told me I had to come if anything happened to him."
The entire courtroom became quiet again.
The prosecutor slowly stood.
"Your Honor... the prosecution requests an immediate recess."
Judge Harrison nodded.
"So ordered."
Outside the courtroom, detectives immediately seized Clara's phone, laptop, and briefcase.
Within an hour, forensic analysts confirmed the recording had not been altered.
Every timestamp matched.
Every voice matched.
Every digital signature proved authentic.
The murder case against Mrs. Gable suddenly looked very different.
Detective Marcus Lee approached Emily carefully.
"Where did you get that toy phone?"
