Chapter 2: The Truth Comes Out

Two weeks later, I left the hospital.

Amanda immediately filed restraining orders against my father, mother, and Brent.

That should have been the end.

But Caleb had one final surprise.

During the trust review, Amanda discovered a collection of recorded conversations Caleb had stored in a secure vault.

Conversations involving my family.

When we listened to them, my blood ran cold.

One recording featured Brent.

"Once Caleb is gone, Ellie will inherit everything."

Another featured my father.

"She's too emotional to manage millions. We'll convince the court we're helping her."

Then came the worst recording.

My mother.

"We'll take the baby if we have to."

The room fell silent.

Amanda slowly stopped the audio.

The evidence was overwhelming.

Within days, my family abandoned their legal threats.

They knew they would lose.

The recordings destroyed any chance they had of claiming they acted out of concern.

It had never been about family.

It had always been about control.

And money.

When the final legal papers arrived, my father signed them without a fight.

For once, he had no power left.

The man who had controlled everyone his entire life had finally been defeated.

Not by force.

But by the truth.
