Chapter 2: The Missing Daughter

The ceremony was officially canceled.
Some guests complained.
Others whispered.
Most simply left.
Inside a quiet conference room, the four adults spread old photographs, hospital papers, and faded letters across a table.
The records made little sense.
Birth certificates had been altered.
Hospital files had disappeared.
Names had been changed.
Only one clue remained.
A silver locket that Evelyn had placed beside her newborn before leaving the hospital.
Richard recognized it immediately.
Months later, a private investigator located a retired nurse willing to speak.
She confessed that a wealthy couple unable to have children had secretly arranged an illegal adoption through a corrupt administrator.
The nurse had regretted her silence every day since.
She handed them one final document.
A name.
Sophia Carter.
Now thirty years old.
Living less than two hundred miles away.
Lily looked at Ethan.
"We came here expecting to become husband and wife."
He nodded sadly.
"Instead we're helping our parents find the daughter they lost."

Neither of them knew what their future looked like anymore.
But for the first time, every decision they made would be based on truth instead of secrets.
