Chapter 2 – What Happened After Breakfast
The chef poured Ethan a fresh cup of coffee.
"I've wondered about you for years."
Ethan smiled softly.
"That breakfast saved my life."
The room grew quiet.
"I left town that afternoon."
"A social worker found me sleeping behind a bus station."
"I was placed in foster care."
"It wasn't easy."
He laughed quietly.
"Actually... it was terrible."
He worked every job he could find.
Delivered newspapers.
Washed dishes.
Loaded trucks.
Studied every night.
Eventually he earned a scholarship.
Finished college.
Started a small software company from a rented garage.
The company failed.
He started another.
It failed too.
The third one didn't.
Years later, investors came.
The business exploded.
Today, Ethan owned one of the fastest-growing restaurant technology companies in the country.
"But none of that started with business."
"It started with kindness."
He looked directly at the chef.
"When everyone else saw a thief..."
"You saw a hungry kid."
The chef lowered his eyes.
"I only made breakfast."
