CHAPTER 2 — THE TRUTH EVERYONE HID

The ballroom erupted into chaos.
Guests whispered.
Some walked away in disbelief.
Others stayed frozen, unable to look away.
My father lowered the papers.
Then he turned toward me.
"I'm sorry."
Just two words.
But they carried twelve years of regret.
"I failed you."
I saw tears in his eyes for the first time since my mother's funeral.
"I chose convenience over truth."
"I let someone convince me my own daughter was the enemy."
Joan suddenly stepped forward.
"I did everything for this family!"
"No," my father answered.
"You did everything for yourself."
Security entered the ballroom.
Not because anyone had called them.
Because one of the wedding planners had already seen Joan destroy my dress.
The scissors had been recorded.
Every insult.
Every threat.
Everything.
Joan looked around desperately.
Nobody defended her.
Not one guest.
Even Madison slowly stepped away from her mother.
"I didn't know what you were doing," Madison whispered.
"I believed you."
Joan reached for her.
Madison backed away.
"You used me too."
Security escorted Joan toward the exit.
She screamed that everyone would regret humiliating her.
No one answered.
Outside...
The heavy wooden doors closed behind her.
For the first time in years...
The house felt peaceful.
I looked down at my ruined dress.
The ceremony was over.
Or so I thought.
Then my fiancé smiled.
"What if we stop waiting for perfect?"
He took off his suit jacket.
Wrapped it gently around my shoulders.
And held out his hand.
"I didn't fall in love with the dress."
May you like
"I fell in love with you."
Every guest began applauding.
