CHAPTER 2 — THE CAMERA NO ONE KNEW ABOUT

Police arrived within the hour.

Marissa remained calm.

"This is ridiculous," she said. "The insects must have entered after the cast was applied."

The explanation sounded reasonable.

Until Evelyn asked one simple question.

"May I see the basement?"

Daniel frowned.

"What does the basement have to do with this?"

"Everything."

Back at the mansion, Evelyn walked directly to the staircase where Noah had supposedly fallen.

She crouched beside the last step.

There was no blood.

No damaged railing.

No signs of a violent fall.

Instead...

She found tiny scratches beneath the storage cabinet.

Like something heavy had recently been dragged.

When Daniel moved the cabinet aside, they discovered a hidden utility panel.

Inside sat a small wireless camera.

Daniel frowned.

"I never installed this."

The footage was recovered that evening.

Everyone watched in silence.

Noah never fell.

Marissa led him into the basement.

She handed him a flashlight.

When he bent down to look for a toy...

She shoved him.

His arm struck the concrete floor.

Noah cried.

Marissa didn't help him.

Instead...

She walked into the laundry room.

She returned carrying a glass jar.

Inside it were dozens of live centipedes.

The footage ended before anyone saw what she did next.

But no one needed to.

Daniel collapsed into his chair.

The woman he had trusted had turned his home into a trap.

Police officers immediately placed Marissa under arrest.

She never denied pushing Noah.

She only smiled.

"You still haven't figured everything out."

Those words chilled everyone in the room.

May you like

Because she was right.

The worst secret had not yet been uncovered.
