Chapter 4 – The Bloodline Betrayal

The tires screamed across the rain-soaked pavement as Alejandro's black Rolls-Royce skidded into the emergency entrance of St. Gabriel Medical Center.
Before the car had fully stopped, he was already running.
"Where is my wife?"
A nurse pointed toward the intensive care wing.
"Mr. Castillo—"
He didn't wait.
His footsteps echoed through the corridor until he reached Elena's room.
Two Blackstone security officers stood outside the door, both visibly shaken.
Marco arrived seconds later.
"What happened?"
One guard lowered his head.
"A woman dressed as a nurse entered with forged credentials."
"She carried a syringe."
"We stopped her before she reached Mrs. Castillo."
"Where is she now?"
The guard's expression darkened.
"Dead."
Alejandro stared at him.
"What?"
"She swallowed a cyanide capsule before we could question her."
Silence.
Professional assassins.
Disposable operatives.
Whoever was behind this conspiracy had planned every possibility.
Inside the room...
Elena sat quietly against the raised hospital bed.
She looked exhausted but awake.
The moment she saw Alejandro, tears filled her eyes.
"I thought..."
She whispered.
"I thought you weren't coming back."
Alejandro crossed the room in two quick steps.
He gently held both of her hands.
"I'll never leave you again."
Elena searched his face.
There was no hesitation.
No doubt.
Only guilt.
Deep, crushing guilt.
"You searched for me..."
She said softly.
"I did."
"For three years."
"I did."
"And I was here."
Her voice broke.
"So close."
Alejandro closed his eyes.
"I failed you."
"No."
Elena shook her head.
"They fooled us both."
Dr. Harrison entered carrying a small sealed envelope.
"I found something."
He placed it carefully on the bedside table.
"This was hidden inside Elena's medical file."
Alejandro opened it.
Inside lay an old photograph.
It showed a family gathering from nearly ten years earlier.
Alejandro.
Elena.
His father.
His younger brother, Adrian.
And standing beside Adrian...
Vivian Moretti.
Alejandro frowned.
"I've never seen this."
Dr. Harrison nodded.
"It was removed from the family albums."
Elena stared at the picture.
Then another memory returned.
"Vivian..."
She whispered.
"She didn't meet us three years ago."
Alejandro looked up.
"What do you mean?"
"I met her years before."
The room fell silent.
Ten years earlier...
The Castillo Foundation hosted its annual charity gala.
Elena had been helping organize the event.
A young woman accidentally spilled champagne across Elena's gown.
She apologized repeatedly.
"I'm so sorry."
Elena smiled kindly.
"It's only a dress."
That young woman...
Was Vivian.
From that day forward, she slowly became part of their social circle.
She volunteered at foundation events.
Donated to charities.
Supported Alejandro's business initiatives.
Everyone admired her.
Everyone trusted her.
Including Elena.
"I thought she was my friend."
Elena whispered.
"I introduced her to our family."
Alejandro felt sick.
Vivian had not entered their lives by chance.
She had planted herself there years in advance.
Back at the mansion...
Police forensic teams continued searching every room.
Inside Vivian's bedroom they discovered almost nothing.
Designer clothing.
Jewelry.
Luxury handbags.
Everything appeared ordinary.
Until one detective noticed a loose floorboard beneath the dressing table.
Hidden underneath was a small steel safe.
The code had already been erased.
The safe was forced open.
Inside...
There were passports from five different countries.
Multiple identities.
Stacks of cash.
A satellite phone.
And one leather folder.
Marco opened it.
His expression immediately changed.
He called Alejandro.
"You need to see this."
An hour later...
Alejandro arrived.
Marco handed him the folder without saying a word.
Across the cover, in elegant handwriting, were four words.
Operation Black Rose
Inside were dozens of detailed reports.
Psychological evaluations.
Financial forecasts.
Daily surveillance summaries.
Every page centered around one objective.
Replace Elena Castillo.
The plan had been written nearly seven years earlier.
Long before Elena disappeared.
Long before Vivian moved into the mansion.
Alejandro kept turning pages.
Each revelation grew darker.
Stage One.
Gain Elena's trust.
Stage Two.
Earn Alejandro's confidence.
Stage Three.
Remove Elena.
Stage Four.
Control the Castillo estate.
Stage Five.
Acquire majority ownership of Castillo Global Holdings.
Alejandro's hands trembled.
This wasn't obsession.
It wasn't jealousy.
It was a corporate takeover disguised as a love story.
Then he reached the final page.
Signed with two names.
Vivian Moretti.
...
Adrian Castillo.
Alejandro froze.
His younger brother.
"No..."
Marco nodded slowly.
"I'm afraid so."
The memories flooded back.
Adrian had insisted Vivian was trustworthy.
Adrian had recommended appointing her to oversee charitable operations.
Adrian had encouraged Alejandro to spend more time expanding the business overseas after Elena disappeared.
Every decision...
Every suggestion...
Had quietly benefited Vivian.
Alejandro leaned against the desk.
His own brother.
His own blood.
Just then...
His phone rang.
Unknown number.
He answered immediately.
"This is Alejandro."
A familiar voice laughed softly.
"Hello, brother."
Adrian.
Alejandro's heartbeat slowed.
Not from relief.
From rage.
"Where are you?"
"Far enough away."
"You tried to murder Elena."
"No."
Adrian chuckled.
"I tried to protect everything Father built."
"You call this protection?"
"I call it survival."
Alejandro remained silent.
Adrian continued.
"Do you know why Father chose you to inherit everything?"
"Because I earned it."
"No."
Another laugh.
"Because Elena convinced him."
Alejandro frowned.
"What?"
"You never knew."
"Father planned to divide the empire equally."
"But Elena argued that one leader would keep the company united."
"So Father gave you control."
Alejandro felt the truth hit him like a hammer.
Adrian had never hated him.
He hated Elena.
Because in his mind...
She had taken away half the inheritance.
"I lost billions because of your wife."
Adrian said coldly.
"So I took yours."
Alejandro's voice became deadly calm.
"You destroyed innocent lives for money."
"I corrected an injustice."
"You imprisoned her."
"I erased a problem."
"You'll spend the rest of your life in prison."
Adrian laughed one final time.
"You still think there'll be a trial?"
The call ended.
Marco immediately traced the signal.
"Private airfield."
"How long?"
"Eight minutes ago."
"They're trying to leave the country."
Alejandro didn't hesitate.
"Prepare the helicopter."
Across the city...
A sleek private jet rolled toward the runway.
Inside, Vivian sat beside Adrian.
She looked out the window at the storm.
"We're cutting this close."
Adrian glanced at his watch.
"We still have one advantage."
"What?"
He smiled.
"Alejandro still doesn't know where the original documents are."
Vivian relaxed.
"Then we're safe."
Adrian nodded.
"As long as he never finds Elena's father's watch."
Vivian frowned.
"What does a watch have to do with anything?"
Adrian smiled.
"Because inside that watch..."
"...is the only key to unlocking the offshore trust that controls twenty billion dollars."
Vivian's eyes widened.
"You never told me."
"I didn't trust anyone."
At that exact moment...
The pilot's voice came over the intercom.
"Sir..."
"We have company."
Adrian looked through the cockpit window.
A Blackstone helicopter descended directly into their path.
Its searchlight illuminated the runway.
Standing inside the open cabin door...
Was Alejandro Castillo.
Holding a court-issued arrest warrant in one hand...
May you like
And Elena's wedding ring in the other.
The final confrontation had begun.
