CHAPTER 2 — The Truth Hidden Behind the Mansion Walls

Silence ruled the mansion.

The billionaire never took his eyes off his daughter.

She looked smaller than he remembered.

Too thin.

Too quiet.

Too afraid.

He slowly knelt before her.

His expensive suit touched the cold marble floor.

For the first time in years...

The richest man in the city looked completely powerless.

He reached toward her bruised hands.

She instinctively flinched.

His heart shattered.

"What happened to you?" he whispered.

The little girl lowered her eyes.

"I... I wasn't allowed to stop cleaning."

His breathing grew heavier.

"Who told you that?"

She glanced toward her stepmother.

No words.

She didn't need them.

The answer was already standing across the room.

The woman quickly forced tears into her eyes.

"Darling, you've misunderstood everything."

"She wanted to help the staff."

"Children should learn responsibility."

Before she could continue—

SLAP!

The crystal wine glass flew from her hand and shattered against the wall.

Everyone froze.

"I asked one question," he said quietly.

His voice was calm.

Too calm.

"Who gave my daughter those bruises?"

No answer.

He turned toward the servants.

For years they had remained silent.

Today...

One elderly housekeeper stepped forward.

Tears filled her eyes.

"Sir..."

"We were forbidden to interfere."

"Miss Evelyn made the young lady scrub every room."

"She ate after everyone else."

"Sometimes... she wasn't allowed to eat at all."

Another servant spoke.

"She slept in the maid's quarters."

Then another.

"She wasn't allowed to call herself your daughter."

Each sentence became another knife.

Each truth destroyed another lie.

The billionaire closed his eyes.

Everything suddenly made sense.

The reason his daughter avoided hugs.

The reason she never smiled during video calls.

The reason she always whispered,

"I'm okay, Daddy."

She had been protecting him.

While he had failed to protect her.

He stood.

His voice echoed through the mansion.

"Call my lawyer."

"Call the police."

"And no one..."

He looked directly at Evelyn.

"...leaves this house."

For the first time...

The woman realized she had lost.
