CHAPTER 3 — The Recording No One Was Supposed to Hear

The Pierce family gathered the following morning.
Board members.
Lawyers.
Executives.
Estelle sat at the head of the table.
Elegant.
Calm.
Untouchable.
When Christopher entered carrying Emma's hand, the room became silent.
His mother smiled.
"You shouldn't expose a child to family business."
Christopher ignored her.
Instead...
He connected Yvette's recorder to the conference room speakers.
Click.
Juliette's voice echoed first.
"If Emma stays in the will... we'll never control the company."
Several directors exchanged nervous glances.
Then came Estelle's voice.
Cold.
Measured.
"Then remove the obstacle."
Silence.
No one breathed.
Estelle slowly folded her hands.
"That recording proves nothing."
Christopher smiled for the first time.
"It isn't the only one."
He nodded toward the door.
Two detectives entered.
Behind them came the pool maintenance supervisor.
Then the estate's security technician.
Finally...
The family attorney.
Each carried evidence.
Deleted security footage recovered from cloud storage.
Financial transfers to Juliette.
Phone records linking Estelle to every payment.
One by one...
The lies collapsed.
