Chapter 3

Chapter 4 – Every Secret Has a Witness
Khloe survived.
So did the baby.
The doctors called it miraculous.
Another few inches.
Another minute without treatment.
The outcome might have been devastating.
Marcus never left the hospital.
For three straight days.
He slept beside Khloe's bed.
Held her hand whenever nightmares woke her.
And quietly blamed himself.
"I should have seen it sooner."
Khloe smiled weakly.
"You believed the best in people."
"No."
Marcus looked away.
"I ignored what was right in front of me."
That same afternoon—
His attorneys delivered something unexpected.
A financial investigation.
Isabella hadn't only pursued Marcus romantically.
She had manipulated charitable donations connected to the gala.
Luxury invoices.
Personal travel.
Shell companies.
Over four million dollars had quietly disappeared.
Marcus stared at the documents.
"This wasn't obsession."
His attorney nodded.
"It was a business."
The criminal investigation expanded overnight.
Fraud.
Assault.
Evidence tampering.
Conspiracy.
Then came the final surprise.
Elaine Parker requested a private meeting.
She placed a small flash drive on Marcus's desk.
"I didn't trust her months ago."
Marcus frowned.
"What is this?"
"I kept backups."
Videos.
Voice recordings.
Emails.
Months of conversations.
Including Isabella bragging to a friend.
"If the wife loses the baby..."
She laughed.
"...Marcus won't have anyone left except me."

Marcus felt physically sick.
Every illusion disappeared.
