PART 1: The Mark She Never Forgot

Eleanor’s breath caught in her throat.
Her legs nearly gave out beneath her heels.
That birthmark—small, crescent-shaped, just below the wrist—was not something she could mistake.
She had seen it once.
Only once.
In a hospital room twenty years ago.
A newborn wrapped in a pink blanket… then gone before she could even hold her.
Her daughter.
Stolen from her life before she even learned how to say “mom.”
Eleanor stumbled back as if the bride had struck her instead.
“No…” she whispered, shaking her head. “That’s not possible.”
But her eyes refused to look away from the mark.
The bride, still trembling, didn’t understand.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” she asked softly, her voice breaking.
Eleanor’s fury was gone now—replaced by something far worse.
Fear.
Hope.
And unbearable recognition.
Behind her, the groom stepped forward. “Mom… what are you talking about?”
But Eleanor couldn’t answer.
Because for the first time in twenty years…

She wasn’t searching anymore.
She had found her.
