Chapter 2: The Man Who Stole a Life

That evening, Isabella brought Valentina to her penthouse.

The child sat nervously on the edge of a sofa larger than the room she had grown up in.

Meanwhile, Isabella's private investigators worked through the night.

At dawn, the truth arrived.

Victor had known everything.

Twenty years earlier, Isabella's wealthy father had discovered she was pregnant with a child he considered a disgrace to the family name.

Victor's family had helped orchestrate the cover-up.

The fire had been real.

But the baby had survived.

Instead of returning her to Isabella, they paid corrupt officials to falsify records.

The child disappeared.

The truth was buried.

And Victor had spent decades protecting that secret.

Isabella stared at the evidence spread across her desk.

Photos.

Bank transfers.

Witness statements.

Every piece pointed to one horrifying reality.

The man she planned to marry had stolen twenty years of motherhood.

At that moment Victor walked into the penthouse.

His smile vanished when he saw the files.

"Isabella, let me explain."

"Explain what?" she said coldly.

His voice shook.

"I was young. My father made the decision."

"You knew."

Silence.

"You knew my daughter was alive."

Victor lowered his head.

That answer was enough.

The sound of a slap echoed through the room.

Valentina watched from the doorway as Isabella pointed toward the exit.

"Get out."

Victor took a step forward.

"Please."

"Get out before I call the police."

For the first time in years, Victor Moretti looked afraid.

He turned and walked away.

But Isabella didn't know that someone even more dangerous was still watching.
