Chapter 2 – The Daughter They Erased

"No one leaves."
The voice came from the back of the ballroom.
An elderly man stepped forward, leaning on a polished cane.
The moment the old woman saw him, all color vanished from her face.
"Edward..."
"You told everyone I was dead."
He smiled without warmth.
"And you told them our granddaughter died with her parents."
Gasps spread through the guests.
The groom looked from one face to another.
"What granddaughter?"
Edward reached into his coat and placed a thick envelope onto the wedding table.
Birth certificates.
Hospital records.
DNA reports.
Old adoption files.
Each document peeled away another lie.
Thirty years earlier, the old woman had separated two sisters.
One child had inherited the family's fortune.
The other had been abandoned under a false identity.
Not because she was unwanted.
Because she stood between the old woman and complete control of the family empire.
The bride stared at the documents.
Then at the girl holding the broken necklace.
Tears filled her eyes.
"My mother..."
"She always said we had family somewhere."
The girl nodded.
"We do."
"We always did."
The groom slowly turned toward his mother.
Every answer he had ever believed suddenly collapsed.
"You stole her life."
The old woman opened her mouth.
Nothing came out.
Because every lie had already been replaced by evidence.
