Chapter 3: The Cruelty Behind Closed Doors

Chapter 3: The Cruelty Behind Closed Doors
The servants finally began speaking.
One by one.
For years, they had stayed silent.
Now they couldn't anymore.
"The boy wasn't allowed to eat with the family."
"He slept in the storage room."
"His toys were thrown away."
"He was punished for things he never did."
One elderly maid burst into tears.
She walked forward holding a small cardboard box.
Inside were broken crayons.
A worn teddy bear.
And dozens of drawings.
Every picture showed the same thing.
A little boy.
Holding hands with a man in a black suit.
Above every drawing were the same handwritten words.
"My dad will come someday."
The man closed his eyes.
He could barely breathe.

His son had believed in him...
Even when everyone else had convinced the child he had been abandoned.
