Chapter 2 — The Footage Never Lies

The first sound anyone heard was the steady beep of the cardiac monitor.

Then came the rush of doctors.

"Nurse! Trauma team now!"

"Possible placental injury!"

"Move!"

Marcus finally found his legs.

He dropped beside Khloe.

Blood drained from his face as he reached for her trembling hand.

"Khloe..."

She could barely keep her eyes open.

"Our baby..."

Those two words shattered whatever confidence Marcus had left.

He looked at the crimson stain spreading beneath her gown.

His entire world stopped.

"Save her," he whispered.

"Please...save both of them."

The trauma team swept Khloe onto a gurney and disappeared through the emergency doors.

Marcus tried to follow.

Security blocked him.

"Sir, you can't enter."

He slammed both hands against the wall.

"I am her husband."

"And they'll call for you the second they can."

Behind him, Isabella began crying again.

"I didn't mean—"

Marcus slowly turned.

There was something terrifying about the silence in his face.

He wasn't angry.

Not yet.

He was trying to understand how the woman he had trusted enough to work beside him for nearly two years now stood in front of him while his wife fought for her life.

"What happened?"

Isabella wiped away fake tears.

"She lost control."

"She attacked me."

"I pushed her away."

Elaine Parker frowned.

"That isn't what I saw."

Isabella's expression stiffened.

"You arrived afterward."

"I saw enough."

Before anyone could argue further, the elevator doors opened.

A tall man in a navy suit strode down the hallway surrounded by hospital security.

Every nurse immediately stepped aside.

Dr. Nathan Caldwell.

Chairman of Caldwell Medical Center.

One of the country's most respected trauma surgeons.

His expression changed the instant he saw Khloe's blood on the marble floor.

"Where is she?"

"They've taken her upstairs."

Nathan didn't ask another question.

He simply looked at Marcus.

"Take me to her."

Marcus nodded.

Only Isabella noticed the way Nathan had ignored everyone else.

As if nothing mattered except Khloe.

Fifteen minutes later...

Nathan stood outside the operating room.

His fists remained buried inside his coat pockets.

Anyone who knew him understood exactly what that meant.

He was furious.

The head of hospital security approached quietly.

"Sir."

Nathan didn't look up.

"The cameras?"

"We have everything."

"Every angle."

"Every second."

Nathan finally raised his eyes.

"Lock the files."

"No one copies them."

"No one deletes them."

"I want chain-of-custody documented immediately."

The officer nodded.

"Already done."

Nathan spoke one final sentence.

"Call Detective Olivia Grant."

"And notify my attorneys."

Only then did Marcus realize something.

Khloe had never told him the chairman of the hospital was her uncle.
