Chapter 2

PART

2: The Truth Behind the Disappearance

That evening, Ethan sat at a warm dining table for the first time in years.

He showered.

He wore clean clothes.

He ate until he could barely move.

Yet a question haunted everyone.

What had happened five years ago?

When Ethan was finally ready to talk, the room became quiet.

“I remember a carnival,” he said slowly.

“I got separated from Mom.”

The woman lowered her head, remembering the worst day of her life.

Police had searched for months.

Volunteers had helped.

News stations had shared his photograph.

But Ethan had vanished.

“I remember a man finding me,” Ethan continued.

“He told me he would help me find my family.”

The room grew tense.

Instead, the man had taken Ethan hundreds of miles away.

The child had been forced to beg on the streets.

When the man was later arrested for unrelated crimes, Ethan had escaped.

But by then he no longer knew where home was.

Years passed.

He survived alone.

One city after another.

One day after another.

The little girl quietly wiped away tears.

“You were alone all that time?”

Ethan nodded.

The girl suddenly hugged him.

“Well, you're not alone anymore.”

For the first time in years, Ethan smiled.

A real smile.

The family spent the next few weeks rebuilding what had been lost.

It wasn't easy.

Some wounds ran deep.

Sometimes Ethan woke from nightmares.

Sometimes his mother cried when she thought nobody was watching.

But every day they healed a little more.

Together.
