PART 1: The Face She Could Never Forget

The alley fell silent.

The woman’s hands trembled as she held the homeless boy close.

“My son... Ethan... is it really you?”

The boy froze.

No one had called him Ethan in years.

In fact, he barely remembered that name.

He remembered hunger.

Cold nights.

Shelters.

Running from people who wanted to use him.

But memories of his early childhood had become blurred shadows.

The little girl with the pink backpack stood nearby, confused.

“Mom... do you know him?”

The woman could hardly speak through her tears.

“He’s your brother.”

The little girl’s eyes widened.

“My brother?”

The homeless boy stepped back.

“No,” he whispered.

“You have the wrong person.”

But the woman gently touched the scar above his eyebrow.

“You got this when you fell from the swing at the park.”

The boy’s breathing stopped.

A forgotten image flashed through his mind.

A playground.

A woman laughing.

A tiny bandage.

For the first time in years, he felt something break inside him.

A wall he had built to survive.

The woman took a faded photograph from her purse.

In it was a young mother holding a little boy with bright blue eyes and the same scar.

The boy stared at it.

Then at her.

Then back at the photograph.

His knees weakened.

“Mom?”

The word escaped before he could stop it.

May you like

The woman burst into tears and hugged him again.

This time, he didn’t pull away.
