Chapter 2 — The Empire Begins to Crack

Daniel stopped searching for revenge.
He started searching for evidence.
Inside the mansion's forgotten wine cellar, he discovered an abandoned records room that had escaped renovations decades earlier.
Locked filing cabinets contained payroll records, confidential settlement agreements, and surveillance backups that had never been destroyed.
Hidden among them was a folder marked:
Private Household Incidents.
His hands trembled.
Inside were photographs.
Medical reports.
Confidential payments.
Signed non-disclosure agreements.
Every document described another employee who had been assaulted, threatened, or forced into silence.
Grace's name appeared near the end.
Beside it was a doctor's report confirming severe internal injuries.
The date matched the night she was abandoned outside their home.
Someone had known exactly what happened.
Someone had covered it up.
Daniel copied everything.
Days later, another surprise arrived.
Ethan Ashford.
The youngest son.
The same man Grace had once feared.
Instead of threatening Daniel, Ethan quietly entered the garage one evening and closed the door behind him.
"I know who you are."
Daniel reached for the wrench hidden beneath his toolbox.
Ethan raised both hands.
"I deserve your hatred."
Silence filled the garage.
Then Ethan confessed.
As a teenager, he had witnessed years of abuse inside the mansion.
His father had ignored it.
His mother had orchestrated it.
Whenever staff spoke up, lawyers erased the evidence.
When Grace was attacked, Ethan had tried to call an ambulance himself.
His mother stopped him.
She threatened to destroy his future if he ever spoke.
For years he obeyed.
Now he couldn't live with himself anymore.
He handed Daniel a flash drive.
"My father installed hidden security cameras throughout the house."
Daniel stared at him.
"They recorded everything."
May you like
Everything.
Including the night Grace fell.
