Chapter 1 — The House of Secrets

The Ashford estate never truly slept.

Even after midnight, lights glowed behind expensive curtains, security cameras swept every corridor, and servants moved through polished hallways like silent ghosts.

Daniel learned quickly that everyone inside the mansion feared someone.

The gardeners feared the supervisors.

The supervisors feared the family lawyers.

The lawyers feared Evelyn Ashford.

And Evelyn feared only one thing.

The truth.

Every morning Daniel drove her to charity luncheons where she smiled beside children battling cancer, donated millions to hospitals, and accepted awards celebrating her generosity.

Every evening he drove her home.

The same hands that signed donation checks had once thrown a bronze statue into Grace's stomach.

The hypocrisy fueled him.

He never acted recklessly.

Revenge required patience.

One rainy afternoon, Daniel noticed an elderly maid named Martha quietly slipping medication into another servant's tea.

"It's for the nightmares," Martha whispered after realizing Daniel had seen her.

"They all have nightmares."

Over the following weeks, Martha slowly began trusting him.

One night she revealed something that changed everything.

"You weren't the first husband to lose someone here."

Daniel froze.

"There were others?"

She nodded.

"Three women disappeared over the last twelve years."

Everyone believed they had simply quit.

Martha knew better.

She handed Daniel an old photograph hidden inside a worn Bible.

Four smiling housekeepers stood together in front of the mansion.

Grace was one of them.

The other three had vanished.

On the back of the photograph were four words written in faded ink.

If anything happens... expose them.

Daniel realized Grace had known she was in danger long before she died.

She had left behind a message.

And she wasn't the only victim.
