CHAPTER 4 – The Truth Before the Judge

Three months later, our daughter had been born.

Healthy.

Beautiful.

Perfect.

But the legal battle wasn't over.

Margaret refused every plea agreement.

Instead, she insisted she had acted out of love.

The courtroom was packed.

Military officers.

Reporters.

Family members.

Even neighbors.

The prosecution presented everything.

The forged casualty notice.

Phone records.

Bank transfers.

Surveillance payments.

Intercepted mail.

Falsified medical files.

Then came the final witness.

My obstetrician.

She held up my original medical record.

"It was altered."

The judge leaned forward.

"By whom?"

"Forensic analysis confirmed the edits occurred after the document left our office."

The defense collapsed.

Then Alejandro testified.

His voice remained calm.

"I survived enemy fire overseas."

He looked directly at his mother.

"But the greatest threat to my family was waiting in my own home."

The courtroom fell silent.

Margaret cried.

Begged.

Claimed she only wanted to protect her grandchild.

The judge wasn't persuaded.

Forgery.

Mail theft.

Identity fraud.

Attempted coercion.

Conspiracy.

Child endangerment.

Guilty.

On every count.

As deputies escorted her away, she looked back one last time.

No one followed.

May you like

No one stopped her.

Her obsession had finally cost her everything.
