CHAPTER 4: A NEW BEGINNING

Three months later...
The divorce was finalized.
My husband never contested custody.
The video had become impossible to explain away.
His public image never recovered.
Margaret disappeared from society events almost overnight.
People who once praised her now crossed the street to avoid her.
As for us...
Life became wonderfully quiet.
My daughter started smiling again.
She laughed without fear.
She slept through the night.
One Saturday morning, we planted flowers together in our small backyard.
She looked up at me.
"Mom?"
"Yes, sweetheart?"
"Are we going to be okay?"
I smiled.
I brushed a strand of hair behind her ear.
"We already are."
She wrapped her arms around me.

It's standing up, even when you stand alone.
Because children don't remember the people who looked away.
They remember the parent who refused to.
And in the end, we didn't lose a family.
We escaped one.

The greatest revenge was never destroying their perfect image.
It was building a happier life without them—and showing my daughter that love always protects, never humiliates.
